I use ICQ too, but if you put it on “invisible” and only make yourself visible to people that you actually want to talk to, there’s almost no bullshit coming in anymore. Sure, there’s the occasional spam URL. But then I just click “Ignore all future messages”.
Works like a charm.
Coldfire: it doesn’t work like that for all of us. I generally have 20-25 new people’s messages piled up when I log on, and that is all from when I wasn’t there.

OK, I understand that. But couldn’t you just hit “Ignore all incoming events from this user” once the first message comes in? It seems like you’re putting a lot of effort to waste with responding to these losers, whereas you can put them on your shitlist straightaway.
I ignore the vast majority of them, but some of the more entertaining ones I will have a short dialog with and log it. Then I ignore them.
