Why no Simpsons thread? Is it because this episode ROCKED?

I’m surprised not to see a Simpsons thread today. I was laughing my ass off throughout almost the entire episode last night.

When Homer says “No one calls me unpatriotic!” and then proceeds to step on Mt. Rushmore and the Capitol Building, which both get stuck on his feet, I was almost in tears.

And donkey basketball. That reminded me of the time that my school did . . . donkey basketball. My girlfriend thought I was joking but the teachers really did play one year (I think for charity.) Has anyone else ever watched or played?

Anyway . . . wonderful episode IMO. The new ones I see are more often than not at least passable, and often times funny as hell. Last season was definitely not their worst season and this one is doing just fine as far as I’m concerned.

I could’ve sworn last night was a repeat. I kept thinking, “There’s no way they’d show a repeat in November, would they?”

You got that feeling, too? I swear I’ve seen it, but I can’t for the life of me remember when.

That was a repeat from last year. Thank God, as when I saw this thread I said to myself “What! Ice Age was on last night on Fox? Is Cisco high?” Then I checked on fox.com and saw that indeed the Simpsons was on at nine, but that it was a repeat. I’m calm now. Calm. Fox may be evil, but they’re not evil enough to show a new Simpson’s at 9:00.

Well the good day to you sir.
It appears this wasn’t a new episode even though I read somewhere on the internet last night that it was. In any case, I hadn’t seen it before and I thought it was great :D.

[sub]::backs off slowly . . . feeling like a bit of an ass for starting this thread::[/sub]

According to TV Tome, Bart-Mangled Banner first aired May 16, 2004.

It was a rerun, from last season. First aired on May 16th of last year.

It came on at 8:00 here.

I got that feeling so strongly about last week’s episode (with Marge and Nelson) that I almost turned it off, and it turned out to be a new one. I guess with 330+ episodes (and me having seen probably 310+, only missing a few of the newer ones), I’m starting to blend them all together in my mind.

Aha! That’s why I didn’t see it. I was out of town visiting family that doesn’t like the Simpsons.

Yeah, you and writers, both.

I hate to hijack, but did they ever do the “coming out of the closet” episode that everyone was talking about back in spring?

Oh feel free to hijack. The answer to the OP is not, indeed, because this episode ROCKED. It’s because it was 6 months old :o.

And anyway, good question.

Glad to see it was a rerun as around here, Fox was showing a football game rather than the normal Sunday lineup.

Remember, Bay Area viewers: If some special local programming (e.g. the other night’s Raiders game) on channel 2 preempts regular Fox programming, the Fox programming is often moved over to channel 36 (cable 6). If that doesn’t happen, then the preempted shows are usually played after the news.

The Simpsons have changed channels in the UK. Channel 4 now have them and are actually treating them with respect by doing crazy things like showing them at the same time. Mad, I know, but it was beyond BBC2’s best efforts. The only downside is the Pizzahut sponsorship top’n’tails to everything that really suck.

Anyway, what they’re doing is showing the new series (probably the one that’s recently finished in the US) every week on Friday at 9pm, and old episodes every day at 6pm. And all it’s demonstrated is how funny the older stuff is and how pathetic the new stuff is.

Last Friday the humour was in Homer getting raped by a panda. Hillarious.

“There’s Something About Marrying” doesn’t have a confirmed airdate yet, but I’d guess February sweeps, based on its position in the production pipeline and the hype factor. The outed character has been revealed as

Sounds like your on Season 12, 4 years behind the US. IMO, you’re past the absolute nadir (seasons 10/11).

Channel 4 (UK) is four years behind, but Sky (pay TV, proprietor Mr R. Murdoch) have the rights to show current Simpsons episodes here.

It immediately struck me as being similar to the episode where Bart raises the baby lizards. I just couldn’t shake the scene where Marge says “Young man, you’re coming home with me right now,” and Nelson replies “Alright, a real home!” out of my head. It was like the writers remembered that joke and decided to make it in to a whole episode.

But then again, that’s assuming the writers remember old episodes.

I just got back from Missouri on Sunday… to my suprise the “new” episode Sky One showed Sunday at 6:30 PM was the exact same New episode that was broadcast on Fox the previous Sunday…

which I hope means that we’ll remain pretty up to date with this season…

IMO the First proper episode of the new season was better than Marge and Nelson… although I can’t actually remember anything about it ( I’m not talking about Tree House of Horror, because I didn’t see it! )

oh yeah! Marge entered a cookery contest… hmmm… it’s been over 2 weeks - - I’ve failed to sleep much since then!
