Yep, it’s the linked ad that morphs Cleland into bin Laden. Morphs morphs morphs. You can try to apologize for it or spin it however you want, but that’s what it amounts to (call it “juxtaposition” if it makes you feel better – same difference as far as I’m concerned).
That anyone ever bought or ran an ad comparing Bush to Hitler. It didn’t happen. No such ad was ever commissioned, produced or run by any candidate or even a 527 group. Some random fuck on the internet sent a video to Moveon. That’s not an ad. It’s not ad unless it’s actually paid for and run by somebody.
You also said that the “same people” pissed about the Chambliss ad “chortled” at a Hitler ad. The best you can do to back that up is that a standup comic made a joke about a video submitted to a political website (and subsequently removed, by that site, by the way). There was never any actual paid advertisement comparing Bush to Hitler, nor have you succeeded in any attempt to show hypocrisy on the part of those condemning the Chambliss ad.
Say it a few more time. Maybe then it’ll become true.
So now you’re arguing about what the definition of is is. Why don’t you just admit you were wrong when confronted with the evidence instead of desperately trying to twist and distort your words to avoid facing the facts? It won’t kill you to do so, you might even grow a little bit as a person.
Nobody attacked McCain’s war record (as the Republicans did to Kerry) or called him anti-American or suggested that he was in league with terrorists (as the Republicans to do everybody with a (D) by their name). The Democrats are always ridiculously deferential to Republican candidates who are veterans. That courtesy is never, ever extended in the other direction – as evidenced by the sliming of Kerry and Cleland. Military service only counts if you’re a Republican. Hell, even if you’re a Republican combat vet, you’re still a traitor and a terrorist if you criticize the Lord and Savior, W or the Holy Madonna, Palin.
No, I’ve backed up what I’m saying with quotes and cites. You’re refusing to accept them because it would mean having to admit you’re wrong. Pit or not, you haven’t backed up a single thing you’re claiming, I have. Substance beats bombast and hysteria, sometimes. This is one of those times.
No one (that I saw) said “you can’t attack a war vet” or wounded war vet. What I do see us saying is that "attacking a war vet/wounded war vet on their loyalty or patriotic nature, or their wounds is scummy beyond belief. And what I’ve seen is Kerry attacked in this manner by Republicans, Cleland attacked in this manner by Republicans, and McCain attacked in this manner by Republicans. The common denominator is, afaict: republicans. Now, I’m willing to concede the point if some one can point at attack ads by Dems against wounded Vets accusing them of disloyalty, lack of patriotic convictions, or nature of their wounds.
My cite is the quite viewable link to the Chambliss ad where everyone can decide for themselves whether “morphing” is a fair description.
You have failed to show a cite for either the existence of any paid political advertisement comparing Bush to Hitler, or to support your allegation that those who condemn the Cleland=bin Laden ad ever “chortled” at a Bush=Hitler ad.
Again, untrue. I said that people on the left condemn Chambliss’ ad, this thread is my cite for that; I also claimed that people on the left chortled at the other ad, which I also substantiated, although I suppose you could try and attack that by attacking Margaret Cho as a closet Republican or conservative. Good luck.
By the way, I just looked at the ad, and I didn’t see any morphing. I didn’t even see a suggestion that the candidate was equivalent to Osama Bin Laden or Saddham Hussein.
The suggestion was pretty clear that the candidate doesn’t have the courage to stand up to the likes of Osama Bin Laden. But that’s not the same thing.
I wish it had been someone nicer than Chambliss, but I’m very OK with a filibuster-able Congress. It forces talks and compromise. I don’t want the Democrats to be able to ram anything and everything down the national gullet. I feel the same way about Republicans.
Have you not been paying attention for the past two years? The Republicans filibuster fucking everything, because they can. It’s not forcing talks, because that’s not how filibusters work anymore, and it’s not forcing compromise, because the Senate Democrats have been bending over backwards to accommodate Republicans whenever they make the least show of discontent.
Oh, and Shodan, saying that the Dope attacks all Republicans just because they’re Republicans is horse shit. Some Republicans are scumbags, like Saxby Chambliss. Some are not, like Dick Lugar.
Tough noogie. It’s their job to find a way around it. The alternative, that a single party can force their every whim through, is completely unacceptable.
