Why the hell is it that I can’t disagree with people on this
board with out being called an asshole? THis pisses me off
a bunch of tough guys behind thier computers talking foul
trash. What ever hapened to a good debate with out the name calling? Heaven forbid I should have a different op than
that of the general SDMB.

Is this the thread that you’re talking about? If it is, then as far as I can see, the “asshole-ish” thing about your post is your assumption that my opinion = fact. Get that out of your system and I’m sure you’ll be able to disagree to your heart’s content on the board.

You are perfectly free to disagree with anything and everything. However, going from what I can see with my (admittedly limited) experience around here, the gloves are pretty much off in the Pit. If people disagree with your disagreement, they’re going to say so. Bluntly. If you don’t like that, stay in Great Debates or GQ where Marquise of Queensberry rules apply.

Starting this thread with a false title didn’t help your cause either, kid. It just branded you as a troll. When confronted with this fact, you declined to apologize, called it a “joke,” and smirked at us.
Also, you might want to consider previewing your posts. They’re generally pretty sloppy, and whether we like it or not, that affects how well your message is received.
You can “dissagree” (sic) all you want. However, when you insolently attempt to present opinion as fact, expect to be slapped down in a manner consistent with the low level of tolerance the SDMB patrons find applicable to ignorant teenage bleatings.

First of all, if you want a good deabte go to Great Debate. This is the Pit.
Second your “fact” showed a good deal of ignorance. We don’t tolerate that well here. In any forum.
Don’t expect Pitizens, GDers or GQers to “play nice” either. If your posts are full of shit, they’ll call you on it. They won’t call you harsh names in GD or GQ, but they will expect you to have a logically consistent, factually accurate and well-thought out argument. It’s usually very civil in GD, and the mods keep the name calling to a minimum, but they don’t go easy on you there either.
In short, it seems like you have a problem with people aggressively challenging your statements. Especially your more flippant ones. Perhaps in time you’ll either get a thicker skin, phrase your opinions as such or become more open to other ideas. Hopefully all of the above.
There is no “opinion of the general SDMB”. Moreso than any other forum I’ve seen, the SDMB is an excellent place to hear very intelligent people with very different views dicsuss many topics without cheap attacks.
You yourself said after your fattie vs. thin post that you “wrote this in a hurry”. Start taking more time and start putting more thought into your posts. And we will do so with our responses.
But toughen up a little. If you can survive here, you can survive just about any intellectual challenge anywhere. Listen and learn, grasshoppah.

You are well free to disagree here. We like rollicking discussions of just about everything. In GD and GQ you need citations to back up facts. (Facts, facts, not opinions. F-A-C-T. A proven truth.) so if you are opening your mouth to disagree there, you better have something worthwhile coming out.
In MPSIMS and IMHO you can put your opinions out there. But you need to do so politely and nicely. Those are the sandboxes, and if you spew shit you will be tossed into the pit, where your shit will be bagged and you will be beaten with it.
Even in the Pit, opinions will not be taken as facts and if you try to pass them off as such you…well, you’ve seen that cause and effect relationship. Why can’t you disagree? you can disagree, but if you are being an ignorant fuckwit, you will be treated as such.
