Yes it is!!
LMOA : What a comic relief, absolutely FUCKing hilarious. I suppose we sometimes take a debate too seriously but honestly this is a joke right? lol :- )
One thing I’ve never understood is:
“Fuck you”
It doesn’t seem grammatically correct. We know who the object of the sentence is (the one who is being fucked is YOU). But the sentence does not specify the subject (the person or persons that are doing the fucking).
For that reason, I object to the use of this phrase.
Um, no. It’s called a great debate, or at least an enlightened discussion. Yes? No?

I’ve stopped using the word (and it was one of my favorites,) because of the offense it gives and the overtones of homophobia. In fact, I don’t think the insult is an anti-gay one.
It’s simply a more vulgar form of something along the lines of “asskisser,” or “bootlicker.” There’s an implication of coercion to the term when used as an insult, as well as spinelessness.
If a het man calls another man a “coscksucker,” he’s not really seriously calling him gay. It’s more like “I’ll make you my bitch.” or I can demean you so much you will suck my cock unwillingly.
The other meaning is that it’s just simply an insult word, and really has no serious meaning other than as an insult. Like “Motehrfucker.”
Is there anyone here (besides Brit Dopers) who think being called a “bastard” is useless, archaic and out of touch? As an american I have no aspirations to royalty and lineage is the least of my concerns. Not to mention that it is highly prejudicial to a class of people who had no control of their birthright.
- Yes.
- It can be.
- True in this instance.
- Good for them.
- Wrong. The insulter just doesn’t want to suck cock, because in his view the act is undesirable. It doesn’t follow that all persons engaging in such an act are undesirable either. Hate the sin, love the sinner kind of thing. Do you have some sort of axe to grind that presumes offense in any situation? Why bring sexual orientation into it?
So, 6, 7 and 8 don’t follow.
“You’re a poopyface.”
- See, that just doesn’t cut it.
Ya gotta have something to say with a little oomph.
I am a little confused though.
There are insults, and there are slurs.
Or am I wrong?
To call me a “cocksucker” is meant to be an insult - especially if the person saying it has no idea if I really am, or am not. They would call anybody that, at any time. Or poopyface.
To call me a “fag” is a slur if the person calling me that has just seen me walking out of a gay bar.
The insult I can either ignore, or throw a better one back. Still might cause fisticuffs, but whatever.
The slur pisses me off, is illegal and considered a hate crime in a few enlightened gay communities (West Hollywood, CA for one) and will most certainly lead to physical unpleasantness if I personally am involved.
Well, it doesn’t mean “someone born out of wedlock” any more. It means, well, it means yer a bastard.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m a fucking bastard and proud of it!
(and, why would my being British affect anything? Dear God man, is this one of those “you poor Brits with your queen, however do you cope living under such repressive and archaic regimes” things? Because if it is, let me just nip that in the bud - we don’t care)
Dmark
Absolutely, sir! You’re a poopyhead and a meaniepie! Poopyhead poopyhead poopyhead!
My insult of choice, bar none!
“Hand me the keys, you fuzzy sock-sucker!”
It’s funny, whenever I’ve heard “cocksucker” used by someone not operating a motor vehicle, it has been in reference to someone in a position of power. For example, I would hear it used to describe a senior manager at work: “You don’t want to bring it to him. He’s a real cocksucker.” I have no idea how to make that make any sense, according to the words component parts.
BTW, I believe it was Lenny Bruce who claimed that “un-fuck you” would be more appropriate for an insult.
Heh! I always remember that the full phrase was:
“OK, I take it back. Unfuck you!!
And I think it was George Carlin the one that pointed out that Unfuck You! Is a worse curse than Fuck you.
