Compared with many of the other debates I see posted here, this one is going to seem rather silly, but what the hell; a bit of light relief every now and then is always a good thing! For a while now, I’ve been interested in The Monkees (more the rather bizarre TV show in which they appeared than their music), and have often gotten the impression that Davy Jones was the most popular of this quartet (and the one that all the young ladies at the time the band first appeared went crazy over). Does anyone know why?
May I point out to you the existence of the Cafe Society forum?
Because Davy Jones was the cutest, and had an adorable British accent.

To Cafe Society.

On the show, Davy’s character was written to be the one that all the women fawned over. This was likely because he was considered the best-looking one of the bunch and also had a lot of professional acting experience (along with Micky Dolenz.)
So, Davy was supposed to be cute. Micky was supposed to be goofy. Mike was supposed to be an intellectual. Peter was supposed to be simple-minded and honest.
I’ve known women who each had one of the Monkees as their favorite.
I decided to check out IMDB:
Jones became a U.S. citizen? If not, then how could he have been drafted?
There it is in a nutshell.
Yep, the accent. Although, I always liked Mike and his accent best.
I believe you can be drafted even if you just have a green card.
Exactly. Davy was the cutest because he was engineered to be that way. And I don’t think the humor of the situation was lost on the producers of the show. On one episode, Davy smiled, and they added a campy fake gleam of light sparkling from his teeth, as if to say, “Isn’t he cute?”
[14-year-old girl] Because he was dreeeeeeemy! [/14-year-old girl]
Trivia time, kiddos:
He was also the reason David Bowie became David Bowie. Having been born Jones, Bowie didn’t want to be mixed up with a Monkee.
Mike Ne´smith was undoubtedly the most talented of the group, pioneering music videos with the show Videoclips, which was bought up and turned into MTV. He won the first grammy video award for Elephant Parts in the early 80’s. And his mom invented Liquid Paper.
Gamaliel is correct. Aliens who were permanent residents in the United States and who met the age requirements were required to register for the military draft.
Me too.
I liked Peter best.
I liked Mickey best.
I thought Paul was the cute one?
Me too.
No, you’re thinking of the apostles.
Davy used to hide women all the time so as to not make all the Monkees feel so insecure.
You never heard about Davy Jones’ Locker??
Hey, I’m surprised it took this long for someone to say it …
Among teenieboppers, Davy was the most popular.
Among teenage boys, probably Mike was most popular.
My brother even started wearing a knit cap.
