He means a “trap” in the sense that, once he goes there, there isn’t any good way to proceed, for the reasons he’s stated. In otherwords, a trap like turning into a dead-end, not a trap like you set a snare.

IW, I for one understand your line of reasoning and applaud your courage in attempting to ameliorate the high feelings with a possible explanation–unfortunately it seems you inadvertently took a dive into the shark tank after forgetting to change out of your bacon underwear. It was a valiant try, but at this point I think we’re gonna need one of the principle players in this drama, or at least a different admin to come do the ‘splainin’ for the board.
And in the interest of my own well being, I plan not to hold my breath until it happens.

The whole purpose of my post was to use this specific situation to make a point about management styles in general. It wasn’t really about Tuba’s email, it was about what the surrounding circumstances reveal about how she’s managing things, and the flaws apparent in that. Like I said:

If by some miracle they do comment and don’t sound like complete arrogant assholes, if good sense prevails and they reverse the banning or make even the slightest concession to reason, I promise they will do something in a month that will be just as bad.

I feel sorry for the people that are still emotionally invested in this place. I’m glad I’m not. There was a time when I loved this board ardently, when I felt that it helped me grow into a better, smarter person. That was a lifetime ago. The only value this board has had for years is the pleasure of pointing and laughing.

In response to leander’s post: not only should they not ban anyone fir comments in this thread, they should be heeding the signs that changes need to be made. Reverse the ban, scrap the moronic rules, and breathe some life back into this board. I know, they’re going bankrupt and they’ve never shown a willingness to change but still I’d like to see a return to the vibrant messageboard I got hooked on a few years ago. The SDMB is a barely perceptible island in the vast ocean of the Internet but we all landed here because something caught our interest enough to want to spend some time here. Now, more and more are turning away because they are being pushed away by the staff. It’s sad.
