You know, to be serious (because swf42 takes herself seriously and all) I don’t complain about administration around here. I’m a lurker. Da Rulez don’t usually affect me, since I don’t usually post. HOWEVERZ–this banning is 'tarded.
There, that’s my obligatory post with some actual content.
I point and laugh at the stupidity and partisanship that I see displayed in American politics. I thought that the mods and admins here were more intelligent and able to conduct a better level of self analysis than that.
It seems very obvious that I was wrong. This banning is little more than the worst of Palintologists trying to claim that their barbie doll heroine can match it with Obama as a public speaker.
I don’t believe the PM that Tuba sent off, such a thing is unconscionable at the best of times, and displays a totally insane level of emotion from someone who is in a position to know and behave much much better.
Its disappointing to ralise that people you looked (as in past tense) are even more fallible than I myself am.
What position? She’s an unpaid administrator of an internet message board. It’s not wrong to expect professionalism from professionals, I don’t think anyone would ever accuse her of being one.
It is very difficult to read about this decision, and not have adjectives cross one’s mind like ill-considered, capricious, petty and mean-spirited. Hardly what one would hope for in board moderation.
I did the same thing as you and had a different take.
He posted: [ul]
[li]A cubic ton of times about Lib. But only in a few threads–so it’s hardly stalking–he’s not following Liberal all over the board, he’s confining his complaints to a very small number of threads.[/li][li]Several comments on Stoid threads (the “user manual” one and the “library” one)[/li][li]He helped a couple of users with technical issues regarding the “first post” button[/li][li]He made a funny (IMO) drive by about a quick board glitch. It couldn’t possibly be called ‘mean spirited’.[/li][li]He helped a poster with a question about audio jacks. [/li][/ul]
That said, I agree with your conclusions. IF (and it’s a big if) he was spending too much time on board issues/complaining, then a warning or even a suspension might make sense.
I thought insta-bans were ONLY for sock-puppets, threatening to hack/sue the board, threats of physical violence and spamming. After 9 years here, surely a warning or suspension is appropriate.
yes, I did.
the part I quoted seemed to attempt to justify the banning. You & I seem to agree the banning was wrong.
to admins: it would see to me that there is a fundemental differerence between folks who’ve had a long history of positive contribution to this board who are horrified at the new direction and trolls. If you can’t see the differerence, that’s a real shame.
I left the Dope, because I couldn’t love it any more with the new rules. I didn’t make a song and dance, I just stopped posting.
But I’ve come back to this. This is nuts. The mods here are insane. The Admins even more so.
7’s been here for more years than a lot of us. He’s been helpful to all sorts with technical issues, and a great poster all round. But the second he starts expressing dismay at the way this place is being handled, he’s arsed out of here with a jackboot print on his backside?
Way to promote the idea that you’re reasonable and listening to the issues your posters have.
Y’know, I just went back through my last 100 posts and I’ve got a pretty similar ratio of kibitzing about the message board and it’s rules (and I’ve been a damn-sight more augmentative with Marley and Tomndebb than Seven has)
