Why was this just a suspension? Bone correctly flagged him for hate speech. TITE also throws in death threats against Board Members, what with the JD and the shotgun. 2 nasty comments in one line, and he’s been on a roll lately. Of course, cherry on the sundae, TITE used the forbidden phrase on Bone. This performance looks ban-worthy to me.
Please note that Bone stated that the poster’s posting privileges would be under review by the staff.
Aside from spammers and returning sock puppets, individual Moderators are not authorized to ban a poster. It often takes a couple of days for the enough of the staff to have a poster’s actions called to their attention and to discuss the appropriate response. Jobs, families, travel, etc. frequently interfere with the necessary communication.
Right, it wasn’t just a simple suspension. As Bone stated the guy was suspended to give the mods a few days to discuss things. I’m pretty sure that will be an extremely short discussion!
Am I missing something? In my version of the thread in which Bone announces the suspension, there’s no indication of further action being taken or contemplated. Was it announced in one of the warnings he issued in the individual threads in question?
Aside. They thought about getting a lighter banhammer, one light enough for the female mods to swing, but the lighter ones require more than one swing and were not as humane, not to mention the bigger mess. That’s why you never see female mods banning anyone.
Dopers should be banned for their first offense because zero tolerance policies always work well. We really should ban them before they can offend, or just keep them off the board to start with by building a wall.
Fair enough. Reading it last night, my reaction was “what’s a guy got to do around here to get banned?!” Sober judgement delivered upon reflection makes sense, however. It’s better for the Board.
