Wiener Dog Blues

I am really not the type to get all emotional and stuff on the board, nor am I the type to post in search of sympathy, but I really need a place to park my gloominess for awhile. So it looks like you guys are the lucky recipients.

Our family’s dachshund, Nathan had to be put down this afternoon, after about 3 weeks of failing health due to a degenerative disk disease common in his breed.

I wanted to post a Public Thank You to everyone that offered their prayers and good thoughts the past 2 weeks (those of you that were aware, either from chat or my livejournal) and everyone since that has expressed their condolences. It truly is comforting.

I know some of you will read this and think “Geez, It’s just a dog, get over it” and every ounce of my logical being is chanting the very same thing, but he did sort of become part of the family, and the loss is stinging, both to me and to my children.

Anyway, just wanted to express again my gratitude to everyone for being so kind and thoughtful, and to a select few for listening to my ramblings on. You guys rock.

Sorry about your puppers, psycat. :frowning:

Anyone who tells you “it’s just a dog - get over it” is a :wally:.

{{{{psycat}}}} There’s really nothing I can say…just wanted to let you know I cared.

I’m so sorry.
I know I can’t say anything special to make it feel better right now.
Just wanted you to know I care
and it’s defently not just a dog,
it’s more than that,
it’s a familymember too.
Take care and a hug to you and your family.

Sorry to hear about it psy.
Hope the kids are taking it well.
I remember losing our doggy the same way when I was a kid. My mom took me to the vet and we had a little doggy wake to say goodbye. I cried my fool eyes out.

Well, atleast Nathan gets to go to doggy heaven were he has bacon for lunch and he chases bacon monsters for dinner. And in between he has bacon ice cream.

pat

psycat, I meant to include this link to Rainbow Bridge. Even though I don’t believe it, it still makes me cry whenever I read it. :frowning:

Please know that you and Demo have my sincere condolences. Doing the right thing can sometimes be the hardest of all. Nathan, thanks you for ending his pain.

I’m very sorry, psy. I’ve been there, done that, and it bites royally. Yes, a dog is a member of your family, and because it is dependent on you like a child, it feels in a way like losing a child. You did the right, thing, though, as hard as it was. I hope that you’re feeling better soon.

(((((psycat & Nathan)))))

Sorry psy… hang in there.

Sorry. I have a little dachsund myself and can’t imagine the sadness. You’ve lost a little member of your family.

Sorry, babe. Even though the little bugger annoyed me to no end, my slippers will miss his little doggy teeth digging in to them.

I adopted a wiener dog from my mail route. Molly is a wonderful, if noisy beast. I do fear the almost inevitable back problems…
Congradulations on having had Nathan in your life. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I’m sorry to hear about your pup. We had to put our beloved 15-year-old aussie down a year ago, and it was incredibly hard, even though we knew the time had come. They’re not “just” anything. They’re beloved family members and it’s natural to grieve their loss.

That sucks, psy. I’m sorry.

Sorry to hear about your dog crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I don’t know what I’d do without Bailey, so I understand how you feel.

not that I hate giving condolences, but I hate the occasions that make them necessary.

I’m very sorry to hear about your dog. My condolences to you and yours, and particularly to your children (it’s my experience that it’s usually harder on them).

I offer you my sympathy and support for whatever it’s worth.

Ah shucks that’s a shame.

They’ve all got to go sometime I guess.

I seriously think that it’s hard enough to lose a dog or cat but I wish folk would remember the problems certain breeds have.
I know the ultimate result must be the same but cross breeds do tend to have fewer health problems.

All I can say is that at least when you have come around a little then you have the chance to make some other little waif from the pound a happy fellow, you can’t get by without 'em really can you ?
