Wii Tiger Woods PGA Tour questions

I recently purchased Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 for the Wii. I like the features much better than the golf game that comes with Wii Sports, but have a few questions for those with experience.

  1. Did you create your own golfer or do you use one of the existing golfers?
  2. If you created your own golfer, how do you get “better” within the game? I don’t quite understand how playing the PGA tour works. (the documentation is quite limited)
  3. Is there a way to save a round in the middle?
  4. Any features or things int he game that you recommend?

Created my own. And he kinda looks like me. If I were good at golf that is.

There are a lot of ways to improve your player. The main way to build up his stats is to gain points by playing in tournaments and doing challenges. It’s like an RPG in the limited sense that you can spend your points to increase your base abilities (IIRC it’s Power, Driving Accuracy, Iron Accuracy, Wedge Accuracy, Putting, Spin, Lucky, Recovery). As you gain points, you can increase each of those.

Yes.

It has online play, so you can play against friends or family who live in distant realms. If you actually like them that is.

Thanks… can you share the way to save a round in the middle?

Also, when I play as Tiger, I can hit the ball 300+ yards, but not when I play as myself. Is that something that comes with “points” gained as you describe above?

Yep.

I didn’t intend for this to be an actual game…

What are the steps I need to take to save a round in the middle?

IIRC (I don’t have it handy now), when you are in the round and try to exit (by pressing the + button I think that option comes up as a menu), it should offer the option of saving while exiting. At least that’s my memory.

If it doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll try and fire it up later tonight.

I got this game yesterday. Going through the practice with the various clubs, I managed to handle everything pretty well, but I can’t master the draw and fade. To me as a golfer, a draw starts to the right of the target and curves in the air toward the target. Opposite for a fade. I could not make this happen in the game. The only way to “pass” the practice was to aim right and hit what I would call a “pull.” Essentiall lining up right and pulling it left - the ball did not curve in the air at all but ended up in the right spot.

Can you actually make it fade or draw in the air? If so, how?

Also, putting seems to be completely off. To hit a five foot putt you have to swing the club like you’re hitting a 40 yard chip. Am I doing something wrong?

Draw and fade are easy, if you forget anything you know about “real” golf… simply turn the Wii-mote 90-degrees: Buttons facing the TV=draw, buttons facing away from the TV=fade. Keep the remote in this angle before, during, and after the swing… do NOT attempt to turn the remote mid-swing.

Putting takes time to get used to… you can always use the “preview”… swinging an iron at 50% seems impossible…

You gain points for doing challenges and tournaments. You can then go into the player profile and add those points to thinks like power, putting, etc. You don’t get very many points for just playing a round of golf, but you do get quite a few points for tournament and challenges. You also earn money that you can use to buy better equipment.

This method of thinking made me lust after a golf simulation for the Wii. Tiger Woods, from what I’ve read, isn’t it.

However, when they do make it, I’ll be the first person in line for it.
