Trump broke the tradition in 2021. Will Biden follow suit in January 2025?
I’m not sure Trump will be able to attend Trump’s second inauguration.
True!
No, I don’t think Biden will attend.
If he isn’t ill, he will. That’s the way things are done.
Yes, Biden will attend, because he is a gentleman and understands the need for gestures such as this. Unlike certain other people.
Of course he will, because it’s expected. He is not required to be happy about it, however. Also, Kamala will attend–for the same reasons.
Remember that Bill and Hillary Clinton, as former president and first lady, attended Trump’s first inauguration.
Though I wonder if Mike Pence will attend.
I’ve pondered a tiny bit about the possibility of Joe just resigning quickly. Get that “first woman POTUS crap” out of the way, if only for a short while. Then Harris is stuck with the traditional handoff.
I doubt that will happen either. But I do wonder if Biden is thinking, “I could have beaten Trump in the election had they not talked me into dropping out of the race.” And in fact, he did get millions more votes four years ago, plus there are those who would more easily support an old white guy over a black woman.
This would also get her out of the awkward position of having to certify Trump’s electoral win on Jan 6. Man that’s depressing.
He will attend, but part of the “tradition” is, he’ll leave right away, so the spotlight is on the new President. I remember Carter doing this at Reagan’s first inauguration in 1981, although there was some thought about rushing to greet the 52 hostages returning from Iran having something to do with that.
It’s part of the “peaceful transition” he’s promised.
and
and
and many others before being taken to Camp MAGA gulag.
He’ll be there.
Please don’t mislead. What I actually said was, “Though I wonder if Mike Pence will attend.”

My apologies. I shouldn’t have done that.

Biden will attend, because he is a gentleman and understands the need for gestures such as this.
And to show that there still are people in the political world who believe in decency, civility and respect for tradition…though people like that are in increasingly short supply.
I think all Democrats should boycott the thing, and if they don’t, I wonder what their reasoning is.
I think Trump deserves only what the letter of the law requires. He should be treated like a pariah insofar as possible during his second term.
Is Biden motivated to represent “decency” after Jan. 6, 2021? I don’t know, but I don’t think he should. Bare fucking minimum in the transition is what I think is warranted.

President Biden hosted Trump at the White House today, including offering him congratulations on his victory. As I said, Biden is a gentleman.
