Will Bret Favre play in the NFL in 2011?

Simple question.
Will he-who-is-never-really-retired come back once again?
Maybe a team has a couple of QB injuries by week 6 and decides to call him?

I know it’s unlikely, but with Favre you nver know.

No. He looked half dead by midseason last year. He’ll milk the drama but he won’t play.
Maybe a long shot that he signs up as a 3rd qb/mentor type role somewhere just because he can’t stand being out of football entirely but I doubt it.

I voted for suiting up but never playing. One team might get desperate for depth.

The thing is that even with all his problems, he will still be better than 4 or 5 starting QBs.
I’d rather have Nancy Pelosi as QB, by the way.

You know, I could care less…but it really wouldn’t be worth the effort.

How many retirements is he up to now, anyway? Is anyone keeping count?

It is possible that Brett Favre is really retired for real this time, but let’s just say I’m not counting him out until after next year’s Superbowl.

Brian

Pretty sure that his first “retirement” speech was at the end of the '06 season. I’m not sure if he “retired” after his Jets year or not.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’ll start getting antsy in a month or two when he realizes that no one really give a shit about him. So, he’ll hold a press conference and announce that he’ll be back this year. Whether or not he’ll actually play or even suit up is up in the air, but I’d bet he will get some press time again.

No. I think he’s finally realized what everyone else already knows: he’s done. I fully expect we’ll be seeing him doing “analysis” on Football Tonight and eventually go into coaching.

Yes…he will be the starting QB for the Cincinnati Bengals.

There is no more 3rd QB rule, so I don’t think he’ll be back. Plus, I wonder if he made some unofficial deal to go away last year after he got off with just a fine for his text pics.

I don’t doubt that Favre still has the urge, and even now, there PROBABLY aren’t 32 better starting quarterbacks. I just don’t see who could use him or where he’d be a good fit now.

Are there teams that would love to have him as a starter for one season, while their young quarterbacks carry a clipboard, learn the system, and gradually take over the starting job? Yes- but I don’t see Brett taking a beating as QB of a lousy team like the Carolina Panthers and then graciously giving up his job to Cam Newton- do you?

In the same way, there are some strong, playoff-bound teams that could use a good, veteran backup (the Eagles?) . But I don’t see Favre as a happy benchwarmer- do you?

Even last week, he MIGHT have been the Vikings’ best option. Even last week, there were a few teams (Tennessee?) that might have been happy to let Favre start for a year while their young quarterbacks sat on the bench and learned the system. But they’ve alreayd made their moves, which means they can’t use Brett.

So, even if he’d LOVE to play this year, I just don’t see an opening he’d be a good fit for.

This.

I expect he’ll be on the short list of guys looking for a phone call when a team gets their QB crunched at some point, but I don’t think he’s got much left in the tank. Don’t really see him taking a non-starting role anywhere, but might be able to limp through a couple of games as an emergency/disaster starter for somebody.

I think it’s reached the point where no team is going to give Favre the opening he wants. I don’t think he’s looking to sign up as a back-up.

My guess is that if he finds he can’t stay away, he’ll look for a job in the booth or as a coach.
