Will "Coral Calcium" Prevent Cancer?

I just saw another “infomercial”. Some guy is pushing a new product, which is a calcium supplement (essentially ground-up coral). He claims the stuff will:
-prevent and cure all forms of cancer
-reverse ateriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries is NOT cause by cholesterol deposits, it’s because your blood is acidic)
-enable you o live to 120
-prevent (and reverse) all auto-immune diseases, such as arthritis, lou gherigs disease, and parkinson’s diseas
wow! all that by just ingesting ground-up coral! I noticed, there was NO disclaimer in the product add-so camn I buy some of this shit, take it, and sue them (because I am not getting better)?

I saw that infomercial too. Usually I click off &^%$ing infomercials, but I had heard of this stuff before and I wanted to see what this guy said.
His claims about how cholesterol actually is saving your life by patching up the holes in your arteries that “acid” causes is interesting, but is it true?

Also, he brought up the point that black people in the U.S. have higher rates of skin cancer than the general population, yet blacks in Africa have very low occurrances of skin cancer.
Is he right, and if so, why is this?

Coral Calcium is all over the web, but I can’t find a single credible source that backs up his claims of how wonder it is.

Snake Oil indeed! As supplements are not strictly controlled by the FDA in the United States, unscrupulous outfits pop-up and are able to make money hand-over-fist for touting their “miraculous” stuff. Queen Bee Jelly in the 1980s was said to do the same things as “coral calcium” does. Bah!

Calcium is an important mineral for maintaining the body. One needs it for various nervous system balances as well as the ever important bone use. However, it will not gaurantee a life to 120 nor will it cure all kinds of cancer. The other claims made (depending upon how they were made) are probably just hyped up versions of the advantages to having healthy amounts of calcium in the diet. However, supplements are of dubious value. The vast majority of nutritionists and medical scientists agree that it is FAR better to get your vitamins and minerals from diet rather than pill-popping.

As far as “coral” calcium being different than other kinds of calcium, color me skeptical at best. The coral we know and love is just the skeleton of an animal almost like any other. It just happens to look pretty. There’s definitely nothing “special” about the calcium that’s in it.

You might as well go eat a piece of limestone. At best CaCO2 might be found in an antacid. The rest is a pitch and, as mentioned, snake oil.

I seem to recall being told that it’s illegal to take coral - apparently souvenir hunters have done severe damage to reefs over the years, and because it grows so slowly, recovery is a very long process.

Or do they mean they dye the calcium light pink?
