Will Joel McHale leave The Soup?

I heard Community has been picked up for a second year. I know Joel said early on that he was not leaving the Soup, but I wonder if that still holds true now that his bigger show has been renewed for another year.

Has he spoken on this recently?

I don’t see why he can’t do both. He’s very funny on The Soup but most of the research and writing is done by a staff so it can’t take too much of his time any given week (especially if you’ve ever seen the show; it always looks like the aired version is also the first run-through).

I heard Joel on Chris Hardwick’s excellent podcast, The Nerdist, which is basically just him and Chris bullshitting for an hour and he was pretty sincere in saying how lucky he feels he is to be doing everything he’s doing right now. He comes across as a really humble guy and I got the feeling that he’s going to keep doing The Soup for the foreseeable future.

He’s also still touring, I guess. I have no idea how he finds time to do all that.

Looks like he’s got a couple of movies in the works, too–one with Anna Faris & Chris Evans, and the other with Steve Martin & Jack Black.

He was just on a talk show…the guy from SNL I can’t recall but it’s on Hulu right now. Pretty sure he said he planned to stay with The Soup.

Gosh, I hope he doesn’t leave. I pretty much regard ‘‘The Soup’’ as ‘‘The Joel McHale Show.’’

HelloNinja, I find his apparent humility during interviews funny considering in both of his shows his character is kind of a dick.

To cast his decisions in a different light… Dude’s got a young kid now.

I bet he sees that kid maybe… once… twice a week.

He has two kids.

I think a few people could do it almost as well:

Jon Henson - I did love him before Joel.

Chris Tosh - I’m assuming some people hate him, but I do find Tosh.0 hilarious.

David Spade - I wish he’d quit sitcomming and go back to shows like his Hollywood Minute show(whatever it was called).
Seriously, though, Joel is the best.

It’s Daniel Tosh.

I really don’t see why they can’t film The Soup wherever he is. Just stick up a green background and put a green mat on the floor, pull out a camera, and you’re set. And I bet a lot of Community episodes are filmed together, as it obviously should be. There’s no reason to have him actually making a new show every week.

The Soup has to be made each week. If you really meant Community, no scripted show is made every week so I’m not sure of the point.

The Soup is almost certainly filmed very close to where Community is shot anyway.
