Will non-retarded Texans please check in here?

Audrey, color me confused, because I-35 runs North-South, from Laredo, Texas all the way up through Duluth, Minnesota. So if a few South Texas like to say that the state stops north of 35, maybe we have a bigger problem with retards than I thought.

(I do agree that North Texas is kinda like South Oklahoma… maybe that’s why I don’t like Dallas.)

Ah don’t care if’n Texas is part o’ the United Federation o’ Planets, the South still don’t want it.

As for California, give LA to Japan, & keep the rest.

Dayyum crackers! Ya’ll had quit with all the inbreeding, you might have evolved into peckerwoods! Where’n Hell is Willy from, answer be that! All right then, that’s settled…

We were talking about Texas, asshole. I don’t know what Seminole, Florida was like in those years because I didn’t live here then. I don’t care, either. To repeat, we were talking about Texas, not Florida. Florida isn’t relevant to the discussion. Try to confine yourself to relevant matters and not go wandering off into the wasteland that is your comprehension.

I don’t know and I don’t care what other places were like then. What I said is what I took away from Texas. During my school years, Texas was completely, 100% segregated, so what population increases have to do with my experience, I don’t know. If you assume that because Dallas has integrated schools now they must have always been integrated, you are in error. I lived in Dallas, mostly, but I also lived in Houston, and I attended school in Lubbock–go Red Raiders. My experiences in those two places paralleled my experiences in Dallas. At any rate, I am pleased that I no longer live there and I have no doubt that you are pleased at that fact as well.

Wow. What an age of enlightenment we all live in. It amazes me that on a board dedicated to fighting ignorance, that people who are extremely vocal about predjudiced attitudes towards them, would turn right around and judge a whole state of people for the actions (past or present) of some. Fuck all of you. (Except the one who didn’t stoop to such low levels of stupidity.)

Look, every place on Earth has narrow minded people. Every place on Earth also has people who are open minded. To say that Texas is a state of racist retards is just like saying every man of Middle Eastern descent is a threat to America, or saying every gay person is a pervert. Sound ridiculous to you? Yeah, well what I’ve read in this thread sounds ridiculous to me.

Practice giving people a break, and maybe you’ll notice others giving you a break. Until then, fuck you.

Sorry, I meant ones, not one. Hopefully that what obvious to the non ignorant.

To everybody else: Bang the rocks together, boys! Fighting ignorance, not each other.

Let’s see. I’ve got a face like a brick wall, a belly that looks less like a brick wall than a beanbag filled with jello, an IQ that could be mistaken for an Interstate running through Austin, about as much sensitivity as the back of Don Zimmer’s neck, my idea of dressing up is wearing a t-shirt with no holes in it, and I’m [gasp!] politically conservative.

I’d say I was lucky just to get one.

I was essentially defending Texas so I was talking about Texas. It’s stupid to righteously indignant about white Texans not holding hands with blacks and singing “kum by ya” from 1946 to 1961 when no other part of the country (especially Florida) did at the time.

Shreveport or New Orleans?

Cause and effect? :stuck_out_tongue:

(For the humor-impaired, this previous statement is a joke. I have nothing against political conservatives. Why, some of my best friends are Republicans.)

Let me connect the dots. You said Texas was an awful racist place because it was when you left it. The poster then said that so was the place you live now during that time. The poster was trying to imply that Texas no longer exist how you remember it, so you can no longer judge Texas to be full of “intolerance, segregation, discrimination, narrow-mindedness, hatred, and fist-fighting” because you have no idea how it is. A person growing up in Florida during that time and then moving to Texas later in life might say the same about Florida.
As a current Texas and Dallas resident I can say that the Texas and Dallas you know no longer exists.

Okay, you were defending Texas and the comment re Seminole, Florida and the roll eye doohickey just sort of crept in. Okay. But why “especially Florida?” I don’t recall saying that Florida or even Seminole, Florida is a warm and cuddly non-racist, discrimination free place. I happen to live here, that’s all-----just like a lot of people happen to live in Texas.

TitoBenito, I did not say that Texas is an awful, racist place now because it was when I lived there. I said that was what I **took away ** from Texas and it was largely because of that that I left. It is entirely possible that Texas is now a wonderful place and that all nations live there amicably. It is possible, but I doubt it----I doubt such a place exists at all. In my day, I found myself involved in quite a few confrontations and more than a few fights simply because I held the view that all minorities were as much citizens as I and had, or should have had, the same civil rights that I did. Blacks happen to be the minority most often discussed back in my day and I found it impossible to let casual discrimination or racism go by. Of course, I had a propensity for drinking in the bars on the Jacksboro strip back then and if I had stuck to more genteel places, I probably wouldn’t have had so many disagreements. As to other places, I was physically ejected, as in picked up and bodily thrown from, a bar in Klamath Falls, Oregon because I dared to defend Cassius Clay’s decision to refuse induction into the Armed Forces of America.
I am pleased for you that your experiences in Texas are the opposite of mine. I’m still recovering from some of mine.

We’ll just have to remember this thread and point out the Texas bashers’ inconsistencies if they post anything about how stupid/wrong racism/sexism/stereotyping is. Oh, wait. This is one of those threads!!

[snicker,snicker]

(Honestly I don’t care if people insult Texas. Says more about them than us.)

This is meant to be ironic, right? Or maybe you posted in the wrong thread?
