Will The Marvels flop? [Open spoilers after post 112-ish]

Very unfortunate. What is getting to me is seeing the number of commenters that are mocking anyone who says the movie was fun. Yes, apparently now it’s a bad thing that anyone had fun watching The Marvels.

Personally loved it, while one can disregard the trolls of toxicity/gatekeeping/misogyny/racism/etc, there’s no arguing that this movie performing poorly does not bode well for more of its ilk and that’s depressing for those of us that enjoyed it and want to see more of the characters and style.

and I for one hope future MCU movies are still exciting, thrilling, enjoyable and FUN TO WATCH.

See, except for a few scenes I thought it took itself too seriously. Long stretches of tedium between the gags.

I dont give a rats ass about the who Kree Skrull thing, and i think most casual fans feel the same way.

I wonder if part of this is that they are cannibalizing themselves with their streaming service. Up until the pandemic, I watched every Marvel movie in the theater. Now I just wait until it hits Disney+.

We saw The Marvels over the weekend. As I sdaid, we couldn’t get in to see it opening weekend. I bought tickets in advance for last Saturday’s showing, and the only seats we could get were around the periphery – all the good central seats were sold out hours before the show. You couldn’t prove by my experience that this film is flopping.

Not my favorite MCU film, and I didn’t really engage with it (the only Marvel comics with Captain Marvel have ever read or own have the character as male. In most of them he’s wearing a white and green costume). But it was clear what was going on, and I knew enough about the new young character that I wasn’t at all lost or confused.

And I loved the Flerkens.

I saw it, liked it. I think I would have been a bit confused if I hadn’t seen Miss Marvel. Not seeing Secret Wars didn’t seem to hurt me.

There was an ad for it during the football game last night, so the studio is still trying to push it.

Too bad Box Office Mojo doesn’t give breakdown by area. But for Saturday it made an overall average of $1105 per screen. I don’t know the average ticket price or number of screenings per day, but say $8 per ticket, 7 screenings per day. That’s 20 people per screening. If you are in an area where it is getting much higher than that, then of course there have to be areas getting much lower.

I saw it last night and liked it. The movie had an uphill climb in that it was based on 2 TV series for backstories as well as a Marvel movie that didn’t do well. I liked it and felt it was entertaining and solid. Iman Vellani was great. I noted Brie Larson didn’t wear a helmet at all, which is quite understandable.

The stingers were great. Wish it had all been more practical and less CGI, but that’s just my personal choice.

Wait, which one?

Captain Marvel. I’d thought it wasn’t very successful.

Nope, it made 1.13 billion.

Huh. Well, more fool me. I guess because it wasn’t the insane blockbuster of the others I got that impression. But I may be wrong about that too.

Three: Wandavision, Ms Marvel, and Secret Invasion.

It’s the tenth highest grossing Marvel movie of all time. Twelfth highest grossing superhero movie.

Yeah, not everyone gets that streaming service.

I don’t know how much you’d need to watch Secret Invasion for The Marvels.

You don’t have to watch it at all. The first Captain Marvel has everything you need tto know for this movie.

If anything Secret Invasion actually confuses things more than helps.

The Skrull leader seen in the movie is name-dropped in Secret Invasion but that is it for connections.

Another reason it flopped.

I don’t een have the channel Ms Marvel and Secret Invasion were on. So they didn’t write the movie for me, I guess,
