Sometimes the Klan Phelps states they’ll be at X funeral to protest and doesn’t show up. They’ve done that a good bit with military funerals (perhaps due to the pretty high correlation between military families and gunowners). I keep thinking that one day they’re going to picket a funeral only to find they “broke into the wrong goddamned rec room”, which I certainly wouldn’t approve of cause that would be wrong, but I’d damned sure contribute money to the defense fund.

Is that a link to what you meant it to be a link to?

Same here. Why not do like those of us who grew up in Virginia called it most of our lives? It’s been VPI as long as I can remember.

I’ve always called it Tech (or VTech to distinguish it from GA Tech when necessary, since they’re both popular options at my high school, at least for consideration).
Here’s a very interesting clip from a documentary by Louis Theroux (son of Paul and host of Weird Weekends) from a BBC documentary. It’s the most objective Phelps interview you’ll find- not the usual screaming. In a way I feel sorry for Shirley Phelps Roper- I can’t imagine what hell her life has been (well, actually I can, which makes it worse). You see inside the Phelps compound as well, but most disturbing is the kids.
One last statement on Louis Theroux’s documentary: if you’re really interested in the Phelps clan, watch it. The entire thing is about an hour, but it’s not the usual “look at the freaks and scream at them so you can say you’re a good person” shit that the Phelps clan usually gets. They’re charming and gracious to him (up to a point), they’re bright (Fred himself was a child prodigy), and they’re not monsters. They’re just a thoroughly brainwashed cult who FEED AND NEED hatred directed at them. The kids (from preschoolers to teenagers) I feel such compassion for, and even Shirley I think could ultimately be reached, but not with condescension and outrage (which she craves- she’s a very fucked up woman who’s been abused her entire life [her father and her husband have freely admitted to being wifebeaters] and her masochism is tied up in a religious worldview where persecution equals reinforcement of being right with God).
Now this isn’t saying that I’d cry if a bomb went off in their compound, but it shows that they’re not the whitetrash loudmouthed hillbilly ignoramuses they’re often portrayed as. They’re a bonafide brainwashed cult of, strangely enough, very intelligent members.
According to their website they are supposed to picket at Ryan Clark’s memorial service this Saturday, though I wonder if they will really show. I’ve been telling friends that I think the best reaction would just be to smile and wave because then they don’t get what they want. They want people to mob them and attack then and scream and cuss at them. But I can understand how grieving people can be overcome by emotion in the moment, and if they are there I’m not really sure how I’ll react.
One more try, in case I missed it, but anyone specifically know anything about Phelps and his website? Before I try to figure it out for myself, it would help to have a general idea of what I’m looking for. Poking around there once (like 10 years ago), is more than enough dilly-dallying for me.

There are several of them. Godhatesfags.com is dedicated to…well how much God hates fags. He explains there that sodomy and any form of sex that is not (as he puts it) One man,one woman, one lifetime should be a capital crime and the death penalty should be enforced. Then there is Godhatesamerica.com where he talks about how much God hates america because it’s run by and full of fags and other deviants. I’m probably missing a couple, but that is the jist.
Thank you Antinor. I unfortunately am decently enough aware in general, what I was looking for in particular is what I asked above in post #42. Sorry for being unclear. I usually don’t un-muddle until it get’s dark. Appreciate your help and time.
We have nutcases who kill and we have the Phelps clan, why can’t we somehow put the two together? I’m surprised that somebody hasn’t open fire on them already.

This is unwise to put into print, here or elsewhere.

I think wishing harm on the Phelps has been officially allowed. And I am surprised that nobody’s shot at them- it’s a mystery considering the people and places they protest in the open.
Weird, I was just thinking thirty minutes ago when I was driving back to the office “I wonder why we haven’t heard anything out of Fred Phelps about the shootings yet?” He’s nothing if not predictable.
Not to interrupt the use of Phelps as a pinata, but I’m mildly curious: What’s his beef in the VTech case? (Aside: I can’t use “VT” because every time I read it I think, “Vermont”.) Usually he tries to make the loss or tradegy about teh gays, but here, according to the OP, God’s wrath was because “On April 16, 2007, this nation, through the offices of your military and conspirators therewith took a shot at the servants of God” – the “servants of God” being him and his, I assume.
Did some police officer look at him sideways on the 17th or something? Does anyone know what he’s talking about?

Well, looking at his picket schedule, I see that on April 21st, he’s picketing the funeral of one of the people killed at Virginia Tech, and he explains that:
