Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 72 and rain for the day. It started rainin’ last night and looks like it’s been pretty steady. Right now it just quit rainin’ but there’s more on the way.
I know a post like this is supposed to ask things like plans for the brand new year. However, I will not ask such a thing. Not that I don’t care, I just don’t have any particular big plans myself so it’d just be nosy to ask y’all. Today is OYKW’s bday. He is now the same age as me. As is our tradition the bday boy gets to choose what he wants for dindin. However, he wants me to take him to Golden Corral for N.O.L. since he’s off irk today. Normally he wants brekkie for dindin but decided on GC cause he can get brekkie stuff and other stuff if desired. To put it like he said, “If’n I want, I can have pancakes and fried chikin!” Well, true that and I don’t have to cook. He will get a cake at some point this week. I need to clear a little freezer space because it will be a DQ ice cream cake.
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I could purtify. Or go back to bed for a while. Life is just fraught with decisions!
Extend my b-day wishes to OYKW! January babies are the bestest!
I never make resolutions and I have no big plans for the year. **FCD **insists this will be his last year working - we shall see. I intend to stick it out till the end of 2018 - again, we shall see. Because of his work schedule, I don’t think we’ll be taking any vacation this year, altho it might happen.
Speaking of work, the VP of Engineering came thru our offices last week checking on our computers to make sure we had worthy machines. He said they’re bringing in folks from the company that supplies our software to check and upgrade our systems - YAY!! So while the rest of the CREO world is upgrading to 4.0, we’ll go to 3.0, which is better than the ancient version we’ve been using. They’re also supposed to upgrade a few other things - with luck, that’ll be the end of occasionally sitting for half-a-freekin’-hour waiting for models to load. I hope. So that’s good news.
It’s raining and it’s supposed to continue thru tomorrow night. The forecasters have put out the evil “S” word for next weekend, but being so far out, I’m not going to get too pissed yet. We’ll see as the time gets closer. I’ve got laundry to do and a dishwasher to load. There are also 3 plants that need to be tended to - dead foliage removed, plant food to administer, and a place in the spare bedroom to be set up so they get some sun till it’s safe to leave them outside again. Mostly, it’ll be a day of sloth.
Morning! I am, alas, actually working today. Feeling under the weather, but not way under yet, so I came in like a good girl. I did a lot of online job searching and applying on Friday, so here’s hoping I’m out of here by the end of January.
I spent Friday in the ER with my best friend (who is fine), waiting on doctors. Saturday night we had a couple friends over, watched movies in our jammies, and went to bed by 1 a.m. Yesterday I shoveled snow, played board games, and went to bed early. I’m a nonstop partier, I am.
It’s a rainy 39 degrees outside, which is much better than a snowy 29 degrees outside.
My friend called me the other night
Guess what is in my front yard?
A deer?
No, Guess what it is my front yard?
A raccoon? A possum? (My friend lives in the city)
No, you’ll never guess what is in my front yard
So tell me
A van, a nice new shiny white van
Why do you have a van in your front yard?
Lady up the street lost control of it when the power died, she missed the neighbor’s car, she missed my van, crashed through my fence and almost hit my tree.
Only one? Do you only eat one peanut, too? :dubious:
Up, caffeinating, off from irk. Today’s plans include cleaning the Stately Turret, diving back into the hot mess of a rough draft to extract a story from it, and watching more Vikings.
Silly Firefox, it thought I meant “decaffeinating” when I was most clearly indulging in the caffeine.
Sari, it coulda been a body or a chalk outline of one.
They tried to interview me on NYD one year about resolutions. I said I don’t make 'em because it’s the wrong time of year. The reporter looked at me funny & I tole him I’ll either make 'em around Labor Day when summer laziness ends & kiddos go back to school & people, in general, return to irk or in Spring time when the weather starts to get warm & we wanna be outside & open winders again. I don’t make 'em in the middle of a cold, dark winter just because someone changes a piece of paper that hangs on a wall. That being said, I hate the gym in January.
Everything that was wore yestidy has been washed; it’s amazing how much sand was in the lint trap of the washer.
Up after staying awake too long yesterday. Radar shows a whole mess of rain heading this way, so the forecast is wet, to be followed by more wet. We’ll see if I can make the Jimmy John’s run before the rains show up.
Otherwise no major plans…resolution is to clean the house, but with books to read and programs to watch and internets to visit…we shall see.
Happy b-day to OKYW, swampy. Now you both got me thinking about a Golden Corral visit this week…
Sari, I hate those telephone ‘guess who/what’ games, even when I am the perpretrator. If I could guess that, I’d get a crystal ball and go into business for myself.
I’ve tended to my spider plants and got them all fed and settled into their winter home. First load of laundry is washing. **FCD **loaded the dishwasher. Productive start to the day.
I had a big blurf earlier.
Now I just have a little blurf.
No resolutions for me, I agree with Spidey that spring or fall is the better time to make them. Her neighborhood isn’t so bad as to worry about finding bodies in her yard - yet. She’s really county, not city, but she may as well be city.
I think we have to go get books this week. School starts back on next Moonday.
I still feel disoriented from the holidays. I keep telling myself I need to get into a routine and stick to it. It would probably be a good thing.
I watched a lot of them but last night got tired and since I’ve been sick just had to go to bed.
Don’t remember the name but it’s the one about the old guy who goes coon hunting with his dog Rip. They drown, but he doesn’t know it until he see’s his wife and neighbors mourning him. Traveling down a road he comes to a gated fence that he thinks must be Heaven, but the gatekeep never says it is, and won’t let Rip in, saying there’s a seperate place for dogs. The old man takes umbrage and passes by, coming to another fence gap later. A nice young man welcomes him to Heaven. Of course, you know what the other place was.
My never-ending wedding started off with photos at 5 pm, then just hanging around until 7 when we had dinner. The girl our grandson married is of Mexican heritage so dinner was authentic Mexican taco bar it was good. There were Mexican soda and Bud Light. After dinner there was a champagne toast where the best man and maid of honor made little speeches. Next was music and dancing for two hours. I have to give someone credit for choosing the music as it was older stuff and some was Spanish.
After the two hours of dancing it was time to do the cake. Then finally we were approaching midnight so we were seated while waiting to count down the time to midnight. After the stroke of midnight the vows were exchanged. This was vary emotional. After that was over we left. We spent 8 long hours at this backwards wedding but all told it was fun.
Back at the hotel I could not fall asleep as there were revelers making lots of noise. So I had maybe 3 hours of sleep before we had to get back to the airport.
My baby was fine and his sitters said he was perfect and is welcome to stay with them anytime. When we got home, Scooter, the cat, was waiting for us on the porch. I am so glad I planned it to have today off as I slept in this morning. Back to irk tomorrow.
No plans for the new year but to make it through.
I have to run to the grocery store if we are to eat today. This was the first year ever I did not have greens and peas but since it never brought me riches anyway we shall see. I think I will cook up some beef stew today.
It’s raining here, and I have the day off. I’m watching the Rose Parade on the teevee and getting ready to watch my beloved Trojans this afternoon, when they will beat the snot out of Penn State. My USC t-shirt is in the wash, but it’ll be ready to wear to irk tomorrow. Or not. It’s not nice to gloat.
My husband is abroad on business for two weeks, so I’m all alone with the kittehs. Finally getting over the cold I had all last week, the first cold in 12 years. And one of the kittehs - the one with cancer - has been sneezing. There’s no way a cold can be passed from a human to a cat, right? But anyway, his distended belly is now back to normal size, so either his ducts are once again open or the fluid is being absorbed into his body. Either way, I suppose it’s a good sign. We have an appointment next week with the oncologist, so fingers (and paws) crossed.
Since you didn’t ask ------ I firmly resolve this year to get a day older each day unless I die before the next day comes along. I ain’t gonna grow up any but I will get a day older.
This may not differ from every year of my past but this year its my resolution and dammit I’m planning on keeping it.
Today I am mostly being lazy, and wishing daylight would last long enough to actually do something other than irk. Irk is being irksome enough that I resurrected the irkplace rants thread, and, due to yet more last minute changes, means I don’t get to go pub after juggling tonight, 'cos tomorrow’s shift changed from being a 10am start per Sunday’s timetable, to 7.30am by end of today, for no apparent reason.
Hope OYKW has a good bufday, and everyone else has a good general day. I should away to juggling if I’m going to call in the chip shop then get to juggling early enough to annoy the exercise class that has the hall before us (hey, if they don’t want me to wind them up by making the hall smell of tempting junk food, they should get out of there when their booking finishes, rather than only starting to pack up as we arrive)
OYKW says thanks for all the bday wishes. We achieved nappage after piggin’ out at GC for N.O.L. He had chikin, pancakes, and aigs along with other stuff. We were surprised at the lack of people when we were there. I figured with it bein’ a holiday for most people the place would be packed all day but it wasn’t. Anywho, we’s stuffded and dindin, if desired, will be forage the fridge and/or pantry.
Howdy! I have caught the disease that the relatives were passing around last week. Thank you everyone! I am sitting in bed and taking Zicam, which the husband assures will work. I assure you that it tastes like crap.
It has been snowing off and on, but not much has sticked. I think the kids will have to go to school tomorrow, but Weds we are supposed to get several inches, so it may be a very short week for them.
This year’s resolution is weight loss/fitness. The migraines have caused me to gain 85 pounds. (Great Scott!) Two reasons: virtually every medication they put me on causes weight gain, usually lots of weight gain; and exercise while I have a migraine makes my migraines worse. I have a migraine every day… Grrr. So, this year I am trying to figure this out. New meds, check. Looking for exercise that doesn’t trigger migraine worsening, also check. I’m hoping yoga/pilates/slow stretching type stuff might help with fitness and not push the migraines. We’ll see. As always, I recommend that everyone avoid daily migraines. They’re no fun, no matter what the kids say.
