Will this blasted movie ever get on DVD?!?!

Is there a movie you’re waiting and waiting on? I’m repeatedly astounded at the crap that’s on DVD and the good stuff that isn’t.

I just thought of this movie again today, the writing is fantastic, and it’s never been released (in America) on DVD. The only copies appear to be region 2 only. It’s Peter’s Friends, a wonderfully written, quietly acted, smart comedy. It’s a great cast and a great story and the dang thing isn’t on DVD (at least in a format I can use).

What’s chapping your butt with the waiting. What’s missing from your DVD case?

On Edit: Ooops, this should probably be in Cafe

I would love to be able to buy a legal boxed set of Duckman. Supposedly it’s been tied up in legal limbo by Frank Zappa’s estate. Piffle. Dub some new music onto it if necessary, but gimme my Duckman.

Up The Creek. One of my guilty pleasures, and my taped-from-cable TV copy is getting a mite ragged.

The Japanese movie Last Scene.

Luckily, I have a region-free DVD player, so I can play the region 2 disc. Checked it out on Amazon.jp, and it said it had English subtitles, so my wonderful Japanese-speaking girlfriend ordered it for me.

Got it, popped it in, and settled down w/ aforementioned gf for a nice, little movie night.

Turns out, though, that Amazon.jp lied about the subtitles. :frowning:

So, yeah, a U.S. release would be great.

I really want to see Bronx Tale and Party Monster–according to Netflix, they are unavailable. I know they were on DVD at one point, or at least Party Monster was because I saw it at my old rental place. Oh well.

The Kremlin Letter, a for-some-unknown-reason-forgotten John Huston film.

Moonrunners, which would later become, with significant tweaking, the TV series “Dukes of Hazzard.”

Song of the South. No “official” reason, but I suspect Disney is afraid of being called racist.

I second Duckman - I had an illegal copy which was pretty crap quality, nothing like the real thing.

It’s 37 years since The Beatles’ “Let It Be” was released to theaters. It has appeared on VHS twice and laserdisc once. No DVD has appeared, despite rumors that it has been remastered, the sound synchronized with the picture, and even expanded past 88 minutes.

Now, I have two different DVDs of it, one from VHS and one from its original film format, with more picture area showing. But they’re still out of sync and the color is weird. We have learned not to hold our breath waiting for an official Apple release, or to pay much heed to anything Apple says (like the surround SACD remixes of all their albums that was said to be finished before the beginning of this century).

Seconded…but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen.

The Grey Fox.

Don’t count your Southern Fried Chickens yet. With Disney, it’s never say never. They had once said they would never release Snow White or Fantasia to the home video market as well, although for different reasons. Current brouhaha at TDC suggests that they may be seriously thinking about releasing it fairly soon, although with a LOT of disclaimers.

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

Schindler’s List took about 10 years to come out on DVD.

There’s a HUGE long list of classics and masterpieces that have never been released on DVD. My personal list of such titles seems to grow daily.

Threads like this used to exist for me to complain about the lack of Hamlet on DVD.

However, they released it!

Ditto for Let It Be, and I’ll add 200 Motels. I’d really like a Region 1 DVD of Toto the Hero, too.

Yes, this has been a good year. These titles from my “lifelist” of pined-for DVD releases came out in the last year or so:

Ace in the Hole
The Baron of Arizona
Christmas in July
Hallelujah, I’m a Bum
The Hurricane
I Shot Jesse James
I Walked with a Zombie
Killer of Sheep
The Long Voyage Home
Mary Queen of Scots
Love Me Tonight
Point Blank
Sansho the Bailiff
Scarface
Scarlet Street
The Seventh Victim
The Steel Helmet
Sylvia Scarlett
Track of the Cat
Ugetsu
Wanda
Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?

There have been more; that’s a hastily thrown-together list.

Our Man in Havana.

Hilarious. No DVD. :frowning:

I’ve been wanting Dexter’s Laboratory on DVD.

El Cid . Netflix has a lousy Chinese DVD that I’ve received when I rented it from them. I’d love to see a special edition.

I waited long enough for Becket , so hopefully El Cid will follow.
