My Dad’s birthday was 7/7/13, my wife’s is 7/14/43.
As for the weekend crowd ignoring this thread, it seems to be working just fine!

What exactly is it you want? We’re all in here, posting our little asses off on a Sunday, thus guaranteeing that your thread will still be on the MPSIMS front page on Monday, and now you’re whining about not getting any posts after midnight? I think you don’t really like us (the Weekend Dopers) at all, and that what you’re really trying to do is have a thread with a lot of replies on the front page Monday so that the Weekday Dopers will see it and be impressed and want to be your friend.
That way lies heartbreak, my friend.
Still thinking about the work thing, but meanwhile, this was intended to be funny.
I guess I should have used a smilie? It wasn’t a really serious thought about the thread not lasting until Monday, just one of those karmic things.
Thanks for the posts, everybody. Weekday and Weekend.
Maybe I should’ve used a smilie too.
I wonder if you can get a big smilie by using the “size” function.
guess
not
Actually, it never was clear to me what your exact goal was for this thread. I assumed we were trying to keep it on the front page until Monday.
You know, I really like this thread! Now we just have to keep Cajun Man and SkipMagic from waking up tomorrow morning and deciding that this is way too mundane and pointless even for MPSIMS… Ok, I really don’t mean that we have to keep the mods from waking up tomorrow morning … the word “and” is key … honest!
Huh? Is there a bunch of movies out now that pit cartoons against toys?
 Good gracious, man, that’s quite an accomplishment! The sort that I only daydream about! If I may say so in advance, well done!
You know, it’s only an 8.5-hour drive from Toronto to here … scoot on down after your Esperanto meeting and I’ll buy ya a drink.
Is 80 still the average lifespan nowadays? I’d have thought it would be closer to 90, and I could swear that I read somewhere that 50 is the new 40 (and 40 is the new 30). At any rate, I won’t be as old as the last two digits of my birth year for another 37 years.
What’s morbidly fascinating is the book I’m currently reading: Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Very interesting stuff, but not recommended if gory details bother you.
No, it just means that looks and money aren’t everything. Have you never heard of Richard Corey?
Maybe, but only because we’re at a second page already and most of the weekday folks probably won’t bother reading through all of the replies.
I don’t know either what the main point to the thread was/is. Mostly to see if there was any validity to that suspicion I mentioned in the OP about the players changing significantly over the weekend.
Of course, nursing the thing along, as I have been doing, is making the whole idea moot.
I just know that as things slip off the “front page” they tend to stay that way, regardless of how well they were clicking along. The shift change over the weekend just seemed a reasonable thing to suspect.
If the content had been more universal, that might have made a difference, but there were some threads I had been involved in that did have what felt like a strong across-the-board interest, only to collapse. It didn’t feel like, the last time I read a post in the thread, that the issue(s) had been “talked out” but it quit getting additional posts anyway.
The idea of refraining from replying to “old threads” and to avoid reposting things that have already been discussed limits the field of what’s available to discuss. The “one bump” rule adds to that feeling of uncertainty of what’s kosher. At times it seems frustrating to come up with a fresh topic that hasn’t already been beaten to death.
That’s about all I can provide in the way of motives for this particular one.
A big 10-4 on the “too mundane” issue!
One of the more recent Star Wars episodes had a bunch of robots out fighting a bunch of cartoon-looking things. Lots of action. No emotional connection. Seeing things destroyed has a different effect (to me) from seeing people dying. There just seems to be a trend or a preference to this form of “entertainment” that bores me. To be fair, I really liked Finding Nemo and Shrek and Princess Mononoke.
You’re probably right about those ages moving upward. My parents lived to be 82 and 91. Their parents were in their 70’s in one case and 90’s in another, so it’s hard to draw real conclusions about my chances.
The second page idea is probably at least as significant as any other factor. It has to be a really intriguing subject with lots of neat replies to pull me into a 2-page or longer thread that I just start reading without having been a party to it.
Hehehe
Queen Tonya thought my 1999th post was funny!
Now all I have to do is come up with something really clever for my 2000th.
Oh, shit. This is it.
I love you, Calm Kiwi.
This is NOT a post count party. The fact that my 2000th post appears in this highly meaningful non-post-padding thread is purely coincidental.
I’d like to thank all the little people, especially Zeldar for making this day very special.
Right then, so it’s green for the 2000th post then? Was 1000 blue? Is this like that thing where everyone else understands the paper/linen/ceramic anniversary thing and I’m just lost?
Is there a sticky in ATMB?
Only 42 minutes to go.
Just thought I’d look in…frankly, I could give a shit.
I believe the deadline was set in CDT, but I’m far too lazy to check.
I thought all we got for post-count milestones was scorn and disdain?
I hate waiting on stuff. I’m supposed to find out a bunch of things tomorrow.
It’s just past midnight here on the East Coast, and I’ve done my best for this thread (since finally noticing it). I’ll check on it as soon as I can tomorrow … I mean, later today.
P.S. Happy Birthday, Sunspace and pudytat72!
Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! My friends bought me a floor-standing electric fan to go with the small one I have, so now I guess you could say I have a fan club.
It’s technically Monday here now, but I wasn’t born untul 10PM, so I have a little ways to go. On the other hand, given the inaccuracies of the calendar comapred to the solar year, etc, who knows?
Thanks. Of course you realise this has been at the expense of being a renter in a small apartment, and of having no car or mortgage. Or, for the last few years, credit card. But, with expenses dropping drastically, I expect to be a lot more mobile next year, and a lot more capable of finding a new slot for myself.
And, what with rising fuel prices and all, I hear that there has been a dramatic surge of interest in the kind of rammed-earth solar-powered houses that my friends live in. (“Why spend the bucks on an unreliable active solar-collector, when with proper house design you can live inside a passive solar collector? And thanks to good window and roof-overhang placement, it stays cool in the summer too!”)
Not only that, if those fuel prices keep rising, the logistics industry (broadly-defined), in which I work, may be due for some contraction in the medium term (after a year or so), because long-distance transport of commodities from Asia will become less competitive compared to local manufacture here in North America. It looks like there is a shift in career conditions on the way.
Thanks! Alas, I’ll have to pass on it this evening. I gotta edit video and make a DVD.
That Richard Corey poen is stunning.
I suppose we have to excuse this, what with your birthday and all, but it’s difficult.
Ack, earworm! :smack:
I don’t believe I’ve heard it.
Now, “Fifty Ways to Love Your Lever”, er, I mean, “Leave Your Lover”, that’s an earworm. Gack.
:: Cranks the O-HUM to blast out Love Your Lever–at least O-HUM’s lyrics are in Farsi and I don’t understand them… ::
Habby birfday Sunspace and pudytat72! Add another to the list! 25 today.
Amazing. Happy Birthday to you, too, ParentalAdvisory, and thanks for being the post that “made it to Monday.”
Everything else in this thread will be gravy.
Thanks to all who played along.
Sunspace, I see that your post was the first Monday post, but I only saw it after congratulating ParentalAdvisory. If you can locate one of those paper/cardboard funeral parlor Jesus praying fans, you could carry it around and extend your fan club wherever you go.
Drink a bottle of ouzo with Mariana and celebrate.
I raise my large cup of contract dye for today’s CAT scan to wish all of you who are having a birthday, Happy Birthday!
Man, this stuff tastes awful. And I gotta choke it down without gagging loudly because there’s a big conference call at 7:30. CAT scan at 9:30.
Ugh, whine, pity poor me. Everyone else, eat cake and open presents! yay!
