another old tradition is the new and old presidents ride in the limo to the inauguration. Carter rode with Reagan. Don’t know if it happened with Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama, etc.
I think being there admits that he lost and Trump can NOT do that.
yes, they all rode together. I think the tradition is the new family meets the old family in the White House where they have a brief chat before riding to the inauguration together.
There’s no way Trump will face that “humiliation” so I’d love to see the other ex Presidents ride to the inauguration with Biden instead. Trump has made it clear he wants no part of the “Ex Presidents” club and I suspect that feeling is more than mutual!
Just to be contrary, I think Trump will follow all the conventions on Inauguration day. And be typically Trump up to the day before. Not because he wants to be civilized, but it will suit his purposes. By suddenly acting like a President on the last day, he will leave a conflicted memory behind which his base will cling to. He will be able to point to his actions as how magnanimous he was during the turnover and how great a President he was. And it won’t hurt him much as by then even his most ardent supporters will have stopped contributing to his efforts to overturn the election. Though I wouldn’t be surprised to see contributions come in the day before.
Then call me silly, because he’s not MY president, and never was. Hillary had the guts and maturity to attend Trump’s inauguration. Do you really expect the same from that jackass? He’ll be in Florida, golfing.
Well, whoever bet Trump wouldn’t return from Christmas in Florida better pay up.

Trump does not expect to be sworn in. He’s a sociopath, not an idiot. He will hold an “anti-inauguration” rally somewhere, to which many non-masked, armed people will flock. He will ignore the real inauguration completely.
If I had to guess further, I would say he will vacate the premises before he has to take that public loser ride, which will have the optics of being forcibly removed. He’s big on optics.
Trump does what gives him pleasure. That is the surest way to predict his behavior. It’s very clear what does that for him.
Trump has now announced that he will not attend.

As I said in another thread, I think that by extension, Trump will also not participate in one of the iconic symbols of the peaceful transfer of power where the outgoing president welcomes the incoming one to the White House. Trump is likely to be out golfing in Florida and Pence will be the one doing it. If he could, Trump would lock the doors and take the keys. That’s just the kind of gracious guy he is.
(Alhough I’m still holding out hope that in a fit of pique Trump will still be around and refuse to leave. That ought to be fun.)
