Doesn’t seem like it:
He cannot lose; the election might get stolen from him, but he cannot lose.
The only way Trump could get rid of Vance would be if he could blame someone for foisting Vance off on him, since he could not have made a mistake. Whom could he blame it on?
Trump has fired prominent people he hired before:
17 of the ‘best people’ Trump hired — and then attacked
If Trump keeps Vance, it will be because some of the polling, of both Vance and the Trump-Vance ticket, gives reason to think Donald will win (see the link in RickJay’s last post). It also may be that by the time any bump Harris gets from the convention fully registers, too many state deadlines will have past. But if clearly enough in Trump’s interest, he will fire anyone. DJT is shameless.
A wartime vet(as opposed to a combat vet) is still a veteran.
Many, many vets never shot someone or served in country. Some served during war time in the US. Some were supporting troops.
A vet is a vet is a vet.
And, god damnit, Vance knows this.
I love the USMC. I love all military personnel.
Vance is veering on traitor, in my book. What a piece of crap.
Evidently he picked Vance based upon Don Jr’s urging.
I get way too much schadenfreude thinking about how infuriated Trump must be with Don Jr, and how often Trump’s no doubt letting Jr know it.
Will Kennedy replace Vance? Or is he just going to be promised a cabinet position. (Promise worth one bucket of warm spit)
A peacetime vet is also a veteran.
Such as me. I served from March, 1980 to February, 1991 (I was on my terminal leave when Bush, Sr. pulled the trigger on Gulf War I).
According to some, that means you deserted your unit right before they went to war!
Not even close. In July 1990, I made the decision to leave when my shore duty term expired rather than go to another sea-going boat.
Trump is really not hard to predict. He hasn’t even thought of dumping Vance. He thinks he did a great job picking him. Trump loves to say “People are saying” before saying something horrible about his opponents. Vance is the “people” that are “saying.” Trump picked him to be the attack dog and that’s what he is doing. Trump sees people cheering in front of him. He sees positive engagement on social media. He hears his yes men. He disregards “fake” polls. Vance will remain his running mate. Dumping him has never been a real possibility.
Stefanik, Sanders, and Scott would be his best choices.
Rubio is a possibility but is too much a white man to signal dramatic change.
Haley would alienate his base too greatly to be a good pick.
Burgum does not create near enough drama.
This morning, I’m thinking that Scott would be Trump’s strongest pick. In this, I am influenced by Trump’s criticism of Harris as not a real Black. This horrible racist attack has a certain logic in that people with a conservative personality type have an emotional preference for purity. Tim Scott looks like a pure Black man. Kamala Harris is, by appearance, of confusing racial heritage.
It is extremely hard to know why people vote as they do.* So any ticket change is risky. But Trump probably needs to shake up the race, and Scott would be the biggest shake.

* “None of what people say about why they prefer one candidate to another is true. Politics, in a democracy, is about giving voters what the deep, unacknowledged part of them longs for while simultaneously providing them with a political language they can use to justify that choice.”

trump picked vance to be the attack…? Great, a ticket with two S O Bs
Dan
PhillyGuy, thank you. Dan
Scott, quite apart from looking like he died a while ago and hasn’t noticed yet, is still connected to his massive Medicare fraud case. Also: both Scott and Rubio are from Florida as is Trump presently, which is a potential barrier.
Stefanik is a loon with quite a lot of RNC-related scandals under her watch.
Sanders is probably the best of the three, although then we get the return of Podiumgate amongst other things.
There really is no one on the GOP bench anymore who would be a net positive for the campaign, as Walz is to Harris.
Tim Scott, not Rick Scott.
Oh right. Sorry.
But the idea that Trump would willingly pick a black guy (no matter how obsequious) is ludicrous. And his base (currently busily attacking Vance for being married to an Asian woman) wouldn’t go for it either.
Again if ever it will be tomorrow IMHO. I am on the record with my guess of Burgum, who putatively had been his pick until Don Jr convinced him to go with Vance. But my early joking about Friday RFK dropping out and becoming the new running mate? I seriously wouldn’t rule it out. That is the way Trump really does get RFK “voters” to choose him instead, and maybe even vote. He would lose many more due to crazy than he loses due to he and Vance being batshit. Scary but if done it could work. And it would minimally definitely grab and hold the news cycle like nothing else would.
How about Kellyanne?
Yeah crazier things have happened. I suspect that in the recesses of Trump’s narrow mind, having a Kennedy on board will bring in waves of Democrats, because, ya know, Kennedy = Democrat.
But, I still think it’s a long shot that Vance will be given the heave-ho. The MAGA crazies like the guy and Trump is blind to the weakness he is to the ticket. Trump wont throw Don Jr under the bus, even for this. Let his remain blind on this one.
While he was president he fired people who told him things like “That’s not an executive power” or “That’s illegal” or “That won’t work.” He didn’t fire the people who made him look bad or stupid because they were loyal enough to say yes no matter what. Vance will continue to say yes.
