Although I am considering changing my tune on not using that word. I think I will use it, but only as a euphemism for “dump” as in “Pardon me, where’s your bathroom? I need to go take a trump.” But all other uses of the word will remain verboten.
This has me wondering if narcissists are the opposite of “negativity bias.” Most people are biased towards the negative; in other words, if you had 70 percent of people saying that you were smart, charming and good-looking, and 30 percent saying you were ugly, stupid and vile, your mind would probably give a lot more weight to the stinging and painful comments than the good ones - indeed, the praising comments might not even register on your mind.
But with a narcissist like Trump, it may be reversed - positive comments resonate with him, and give him proportionally more joy than the pain caused by negative ones. Indeed, the negative ones may slide off him like water off a duck’s back. So he could have 30 percent of the nation love him, 70 percent hate him, yet to him it feels like the opposite.
If cult leaders are any indication, some narcissists will resort to suicide if backed into a corner. If possible, they’ll take as many of their followers as they can with them.
And the Lemmings will gladly follow their Pied Piper en masse to their compound in the jungles of Guyana Mar-a-Lago, where the Kool-Aid will flow freely.
Two episodes of this stood out for me back in the 2016 election.
The first was one time Mrs P and I were having lunch in a restaurant over our lunch hour. The restaurant had tv’s on, set to CNN. As we sat down, the CNN flak breathlessly announced that candidate Trump was going to be making an important statement, any minute now. And there was an empty podium, with “Trump” on it.
And nothing happened. No sign of Trump. And CNN kept saying “any minute now” and then flipping to talking heads speculating as to what Trump was going to say. And then back to the empty Trump podium because he was going to be there in a minute.
By the time we had eaten our lunch and left, CNN was still showing the empty Trump podium. Trump had played CNN for an hour of free advertising.
The other one was when Trump the candidate in the fall of 2016 was opening his Washington hotel, and he told all the media that he was going to be making an important campaign statement at the hotel, and they should join him in the lobby. So the media showed up, cameras running. And then Trump started taking them on a tour of the hotel, pointing out the restaurants, the fake gold leaf every where, the conference rooms - and the idiot media just followed him along, broadcasting it all, waiting for him to stop and give his important campaign statement. Which he never did. But he got his free publicity for his glitzy new hotel opening.
Oh, noes! The freedom-hating Scots are denying Trump his constitutional right to play golf in Scotland on Jan 20.
"We are not allowing people to come into Scotland without an essential purpose right now, and that would apply to him just as it applies to anybody else. " She said, “And coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose.”
Geez! Golf not an essential purpose!!!
Escaping from Biden’s inauguration not an essential purpose? How unreasonable can you get?
It’ll have to be golf at Mar-a-Lago on Jan 20 then.
They’re not being fooled, they’re being evil. They know Trump is using them, but people are willing to tune in, and they’re willing to sell out our country for a few extra rating points. This is what happens when news becomes a source of profit and not a public service.
