Of course I’m going to watch it. This is a major moment in a historic election during an extremely bizarre and memorable time, and I want to see it. I always watch all of the debates; I watched every single primary debate, leading up to this. There’s a good chance that there will be some highly talked-about moments occurring tonight.
I do not have high hopes for Biden, who has so consistently done very poorly in these debates, and I also do not have high hopes for the moderator. Chris Wallace in particular is a real pushover. The moderators are always pushovers. They let everyone get away with murder. In my ideal debate, the moderators would NEVER let anyone weasel out of not answering a question directly, and they would NEVER let anyone blatantly go over their time repeatedly. But of course, these two things are going to happen endlessly in a few hours.
I hope we get 2012 Biden who just laughingly dismantles his opponent’s arguments on the way to victory. If that Biden turned up I’d be confident. As it is I’m nervous. Trump is vicious and all about a show. He’s not going to try and win the debate on the issues. He didn’t in 2016 neither in the primaries vs fellow republicans or Hillary Clinton. He’s just trying to goad on a personal level and I worry that Hunter Biden being brought up is going to bring out the overly defensive dad in Joe.
I think Biden will be better prepared than Clinton to debate Trump. Clinton was still acting on the assumption that the old rules still held, and that all she had to do was to be smarter and more polished and she would win. Biden and his team have a much better Idea of what they are getting themselves into.
I’m hoping they have prepped Biden to engage in psychological warfare. Trump is incredibly thin skinned, and his mental health issues have been readily on display for the last four years. If Biden can land a few well placed barbs to early on to throw Trump off his game, and then keep needling him he may be able to send him into a fit of drooling incoherence by the end of the night.
It will be interesting to see Biden go up against another white man, with Clinton he was able to fall back on misogyny. Biden being a white man robs Trump of his sexist and racist attacks that his base respond to. I guess he can call Biden nasty, but it will just make Trump look like a little bitch.
If he spouted the kind of racist and sexist rhetoric that Trump did, I would fully expect that tomorrow his support would crater. There really is a difference between the two parties, one is an authoritarian white nationalist movement and the other isn’t. There is a typo in my previous post, I meant it will be interesting to see Trump debate a white man, he won’t be able to attack Biden the same way he attacks women.
For the cord-cutters who want to watch and may have limited viewing options, CNN will be live-streaming it and it will be open to everyone, no login required.
I don’t know how much of it I’m going to be able to stand but I’m driven by a sort of morbid curiosity, and of course the hope that Trump makes an ass out of himself.
He’s doing no prep because (a) he doesn’t have the discipline or attention span to prep for anything, and (b) there’s no need to prep if you’re not dealing with facts or logic; his standard con-man schtick is simply to ignore questions he doesn’t like and deflect with irrelevant rants, and/or just make shit up. His followers have no idea what the facts are about anything anyway, and they have approximately the language comprehension of an average cat, so as long as Trump’s pie-hole is flapping and he sounds confident and aggressive, they’re impressed.
If Biden was ashamed to release his tax info maybe. Wait, he released that today? Fuck.
He paid 300k in federal taxes?
Double fuck.
I mean, in actuality, 300k x fuck.
Yes, in the Republican Party, not national elections. The GOP is a very unique and dark place. Remember all the hooting, hollering and booing? It’s pretty much Def Comedy Jam for hillbillies.
Team Trump has been spending the past six months telling us that Biden has dementia, and it only seems to have dawned on them in the past 48 hours that when Biden is perfectly competent at the debates, this argument is going to seem rather stupid. So, now we are hearing about how he was given the questions and will memorize the answers, which, is also not particularly consistent with the dementia angle.
I will because: a) I’m a masochist, and b) I guess I want to try to guess how each one might seem to persuadable voters, conceding there’s not really any true way to know.
I’ve been avoiding all things Trump for the past few weeks, as he just makes me sick to my stomach. That said, I’ll try to contain my revulsion at his prolapsed anus of a mouth and watch the circus.
