I use my laptop at home, hooked up to a monitor on my desk. Then I bring it to work and do the same with the monitor there. At home, my cursor speed defaults to 14. But at work it’s set at 10 and every day I have to go into settings and increase it.
For f**k’s sake, why can’t the system just remember the 14 speed I apparently set at home before I got this job? Why would the monitor influence it and cause it to override what I’ve set?
It is possible your Network at work is pushing a company policy on you when you log in at work as oppose to VPN from home.
Windows Server can be set to default most settings, so everyone gets the same settings and troubleshooting for an overworked IT support is possible.
At work, once logged in, you can try running rsop.msc to see the the Applied Policies.
I’m doubting it, because I saw the same behavior when I used my laptop with a monitor at a relative’s house. My best guess is that the monitor display settings are somehow different and changing the cursor speed.
That is not typically how monitors interact with Windows. But what you’re describing could be some additional software from the Laptop manufacturer or a 3rd party software, though that seems less likely.
Do a search to see if your manufacturer does any Monitor and Mouse defaults.
What surprises me isn’t that it uses different settings in different locations, but that it doesn’t remember the settings you picked. Every time i plug in a new monitor (including new workspaces back when i was in a “flex space” office) i have to rearrange where i want the monitors to be with respect to each other, but then my laptops remember that setting every other time o use that monitor.
