I have upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and have lost my email. Anyone know what email program I download now? It has saved all my settings (so it says).
Cancel this request. It’s all good.
As someone who is planning to install Windows 7 — if you don’t mind, I’d like to know why “it’s all good”. Did you find some equivalent to OE or Mail?
Due to antitrust concerns, bitching about OS bloat, etc. Microsoft has debundled many of the “freebie” light applications included in Vista such as MS Paint, Mail, etc. from the install of Windows 7. However, it continues to develop them and make them freely available for download. There are a multitude of giant links and ways to download and install them easily into Windows 7 if you want them. For instance, just typing “Paint” or “Mail” into the search box on the start menu or any Explorer window will provide you with a link and instructions for installing them onto your machine.
I think it would be better to offer them on the install disk, but either way it isn’t a huge hiccup. Your settings and files from a Vista upgrade are saved regardless of whether you choose to install and download the accessory programs or not.
Ah, I see. Thanks, threemae!
In this case no download was necessary. Under Windows Live (in the start menu) there is an email client- windows live mail. It is already installed and picked up my settings from Vista. Threemae, Paint and email were included on the disc (maybe different in Australia?)
The only slight difficulty I had was that I had to uninstall Tend. When I went to reload it from disc , the 2008 version was incompatible with Windows 7. However, I had subscribed to Trend Internet Pro for 3 years previously and I just downloaded it from the Trend site and inserted the key I had.
The whole change over from Vista only took about 2 hours. I did nothing- it was all automatic.
