Windows 7 text DPI problem.

I did try Gooling this, but with no success.

I’m using Windows 7.

In one program that I use there were three or four check-boxes across the top of the screen, but the text from one would overlap another.

After a while I finally figured out that it was because I had Display set to Medium - 125%. Setting it to Smaller - 100% fixed the problem, but I don’t how small everything is now.

Is there a way to set the DPI to 125% and not have the check-boxes in the one program overlap each other?

Thanks.

You can disable scaling for just that one program. Enable 125% again, and then right click on the Shortcut to the program and choose properties. Under the Compatibility tab, check “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.” Click okay, and try starting the program again. Tell us how you get on.

If that doesn’t work, you’ll probably need to tell us the name of the program so we can look at it.

Thanks, but I already tried that.

This isn’t a commercial or even shareware program. It’s a program somebody made using Visual Studio (I’m not sure if it’s Visual Basic or Visual C++).

Okay, since we don’t know anything specific about the program, I guess we can try changing DPI scaling modes. Go to your DPI settings. Choose “Set custom text size (DPI)” at the bottom left. In the dialog box that appears, make sure the top part is at 125%, and make sure the bottom check mark is unchecked. Log out or reboot to see the changes. Then try your program both with the option I mentioned in my previous post turn on and turned off.

If that doesn’t work, we may have to look into creating a separate user account just for that one program. DPI is now a per account setting.

Yeah, turning off “Use Windows XP style DPI scaling” did the trick. Granted most text looks kind of blurry, but I can live with that. Thanks.

That’s odd. When I did it to my dad’s computer, there was no real change with any of the programs he uses. Do you mean just in that one program (or maybe it and a couple of others)?

If not, you may want to look into tuning your Cleartype, or even shutting it off. It’s in the Control Panel. It’s a wizard, so it should be easy to mess with.

Oh, and sorry for using “We” so much up there. I started because I assumed other people would be around to help. But, looking back, I sound like the way daycare workers talk about their kids: “We wet our pants today, so we had to change them.”

No problem. Yeah, it’s just that one program that go effected. Well, Notepad+ seems slightly different, but they’re both fine. And maybe blurry isn’t the right word. It’s almost like the text is at a slightly lower resolution.

Anyway, I used the Cleartype wizard. Not sure if it made a difference, but I can read everything just fine either way. So I think it’s all good.
