Windows XP: File Download problem

Windows XP Service Pack 3

Within the last few weeks I have discovered I cannot download **some **files that are either .exe or a zip file containing an exe file. On Google Chrome the file ‘downloads’ but when finished it says ‘Blocked’ and nothing has been downloaded. On Firefox the download window just says ‘cancelled’ as soon as I press the download button.

An example of my problem: try downloading SUMo at KC Softwares

I have Googled this problem and there is a number of references to it, but no definite solution that seems to work.

Avast! , Malwarebytes and Windows antivirus programs do not show any alerts or accept responsibility for blocking these files.

Any computer experts out there that can help!

FYI, I just tested your download link (Win XP SP3) and Firefox (version 17.0.1) and experienced no problems.

I assume you are using IE8.

Security setting? Tools • Internet Options, click on security (2nd) tab. Reset all zones to default level. A slightly more drastic step is resetting IE itself to defaults; that’s on the advanced tab.
