Winter is here.

Got about 1.5 inches of snow last night. Oh well, it was a nice summer. Got pretty much done too. We will still have some nice weather I am sure, but the first snow always leaves me a bit gloomy. And in a rush to finish things up.

I still have to look at the heat tape, and have about 4 tons of gravel to spread. And one of the flood lights needs to be replaced. Need to get on the roof for that. I continued with the painting of our exterior doors, and one of them needs two more coats…… It never ends. The summer is just so short….

Damn. We usually get our first snow about mid-October; it doesn’t stick, but it does snow. Summer’s definitely winding down nicely, but obviously your summers are even shorter. Wow. In theory it should start snowing for real in Novemberish, though there’s really no telling anymore, it was way late last year. The mountain didn’t open for skiing until the first weekend in December. Those were some painful phone calls to make: “You have a reservation to ski here, but we don’t have enough snow, do you want to come anyway? Pretty please? With sugar on top?”

I like that first snow, though. It’s pretty. Keeps me going until the real thing gets here because between the leaves going foop! to the ground, and snow, it’s kind of brown and uninspiring around here, pretty mountain valley or not.

Where are you Rabbit?

It’s funny, in my 17 years at altitude, the only two times I have missed work because of snow was October 10th, and April 19th .(one is Columbus day, the other was the OK bombing.)

We get pounded on in spring and fall.

That storm last night just rained here. I’m not ready for snow yet and I’m kind of glad to escape to west Texas for a couple of months so I can delay feeling winter.

South central Idaho. I don’t like getting too specific but you have probably heard of the place. I absolutely love it. Except on Christmas when I had to go to work after we got two feet of snow overnight. I did eventually get there for half the day.

enipla is at nearly twice the altitude I live at, so his winters run a lot longer than mine.

Wow, not even October and the snow has fallen… I do like the cooler weather, but I’m not a fan of snow.

Did anybody else, when they read the title of this thread, think:
‘again, oh lord’?

Looks like we will have some nice weather for a few hours. I’m off to town and then need to start the burn pile.

From my - Driveway

What is “snow”?

I hate you…

I’d much rather have snow than tropical heat and humidity, so there, Siam Sam.

ETA: Oooh, purty trees you’ve got there!

I put my down comforter back on the bed because the nights have been getting into the 60’s sometimes lately and I was having to use the heating blanket.

The 60s? We get nights down into the 40s at the height of summer. It’s lovely for sleeping. Though I can’t imagine breaking out an electric blanket if it’s above freezing.

I probably won’t turn my heat on for a few more weeks unless we get a chilly spell.

When I moved here I wanted to turn on the heat. In August. Then I acclimated. Mmmm.

This is snow.

So isthis

:::Looks at pictures. Runs screaming from thread:::: Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh. That looks familiar. So pretty!

Seriously; What’s a “heat tape”? And what does it have to do with gravel?

Heat tape is a thermostatically controlled heating element in a ribbon or tape that is wrapped around water pipe to prevent freezing.

What’s a typhoon?

It’s also put on roofs that get ice dams to keep it from getting a foot thick.
