So, I ended up buying a logitech mouse for my laptop which I love(d). The little tab which plugs in the USB port snapped after a tragic laptop slip and fall. Now, I had the receiver tab in two pieces and a useless mouse which is perfectly fine.
Can I somehow take a USB cable and attach it to the wireless mouse internally to make the mouse usable again?
I basically want to make a wireless mouse, wired.
Possible? If so, what/where do I connect the spliced USB cable?
I would be surprised if you could do such a thing. I’m almost positive that there’s no USB circuitry in the mouse itself, just whatever it uses to transmit to the little receiver. Even if you could, it would certainly involve some amount of very delicate soldering and other physical modification to your mouse (break out the dremel!) – there wouldn’t be a hidden USB port you could just plug a cable into. And then, would it really be worth going to all that trouble, when you could probably buy a replacement wired mouse for $10-$20, or the full wireless version for $30-$40?
You may have some luck in tracking down a replacement for the receiver dongle. Try contacting Logitech directly, or searching ebay for something like “[modelnumber] wireless receiver”.
