WKRP vs. WNYX

Who’d win?

Hmm . . . I’d go with WNYX, if only because I have the “Newsradio” DVD set and there ain’t never going to be such an animal for “WKRP” because of all the music clearance issues.

However, “WKRP” does have the BEST EVER LINE IN AN AMERICAN SITCOM:

“As God is my witness . . . I thought turkeys could fly.”

Venus and Johnny can out-sneak those pansies at WNYX any day. Plus Bailey Quarters!

WKRP in a walk.

Yeah, I’d have to say WNYX. I bought the Newsradio DVDs back in the spring and have nearly worn them out, if that’s even possible. Damn, that was a funny show. I can’t wait till future seasons come out. I really have no desire to buy WKRP if and when it comes out on DVD. It had its moments (see below), but between Joe and Lisa and Beth… they’d kick WKRP’s ass. Joe was sneaky, Lisa was tough, and you just know Beth (and Catherine, too!) could kick some ass.

Agreed, this is one of the best lines (and set-ups) ever in TV sitcom land.

Depends on what they’re competing at. In an athletic competition, Travis seems like a bit of a jock, and Matthew would somehow find a way to accidentally sabotage his team, so I’d go with WKRP all the way. If they were on a quiz show, Lisa Miller would dominate everyone.

In an athletic competition, the WKRP crew could get Johnny liquored up and they’d have a super-coordinated member of whatever team they need. And you know Les can take some abuse, living with that huge dog of his.

I dunno, but WKRP looked pretty good when they played WPIG. They’d have a chance, assuming Nessman gets some softball practice in.

Lisa’s a math whiz - she could add and subtract and multiply huge sums quicky in her head, faster than Dave could do it on the calculator, so, yeah, she’d kick ass on a Math Challenge.
Beth could do the Jumble puzzle in an instant - I remember one episode where Bill was stuck or just starting and she walked over and quickly read through all four words and then the final puzzle word. He thought she was some sort of savant after that.
Mr. James would find some way to pay off someone to take a fall.

Let’s be systematic about this:
Owner: Arthur Carlson vs. Jimmy James. Edge WNYX

Recepionist: Jennifer Marlowe v Beth. Edge WKRP

Station Manager: Andy Travis v. Dave Nelson. Even

News Director: Les Nessman v. Lisa Miller. Edge NYYX

News babe: Bailey Quarters v Katherine Dukes. Edge WKRP

Maintenance: No one vs. Joe Garelli. Edge WKRP (I can’t stand Joe)

Sales: Herb Tarleck v. Matthew. Edge WKRP. (At least Herb made a sale occasionally)

On air talent: Johnny Fever & Venus Flytrap v. Bill McNeal. Edge WKRP

Final score: WKRP wins, 5-2

Matthew wasn’t in sales, he was in the news department. Although he didn’t spend much time on-air after the unfortunate mispronunciation of Joey Buttafuoco’s name.

And one Bill Miller is worth ten Venus/Johnnies.
And Joe Garelli wants to have a word with you.

No way, man; Beth was cool.

Nuh-uh – WKRP had Bucky Dornster. Remember the remote broadcast at Del’s Stereo & Sound? “I gotta have my lunch break. I don’t get my lunch break, you gotta take it up with the union.”

WKRP still wins.

Bucky’s a pretty good unconcious shortstop, too!

What is the competition. WKRP was able to get a lot out of utility players like Nessman in softball.
For Humor and Intelligence as a sitcom, WKRP was superior.
In a Brawl, I’ll give it to WNYX, they had too many meaner and dirtier people and Dave Nelson was an expert Knife thrower. I would be afraid of him. That and he is Canadian. Gasp!!

For Beauty contest, Bailey follow by Jennifer easily beats the WNYX girls.

For coolness, Dr Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap are way cooler.

For biggest annoyance Matthew is worst than Les & Herb combined, so they get it.
If it involves building a contracption and they can lock Matthew away then WNYX takes it easily. Joe Garelli & Lisa are way more skilled at non radio stuff than anyone on WKRP.

Overall WKRP wins most competitions.

If it is ratings then a small rating in NYC is worth more than #1 in Cincinatti a very metro area of less 500,000 vs the Metro area with over 12 million.

Yep, I overlooked WKRP’s Bucky the repair guy. That doesn’t make up for the fact that Joe still gets on my nerves.

The person I really overlooked was WKRP’s actual station owner, Mama Carlson. Arthur “Big Guy” Carlson was just figurehead. Mama was the real powerhouse, of course. Her butler, Hirsch, was hilarious.

Bailey was a babe, but so were Lisa AND Beth. WNYX wins on quantity.

(paraphrasing slightly)

You’re from Ohio. You think artificial lighting is fascinating.

Sorry. If we are going by number of boobs, WKRP wins.

Quality is what counts. Bailey, especially wearing one of Johnny’s T-shirts, beats anything New York can offer.

And she had an extensive criminal record

Catherine had a set of boobs too. And boy did she showed them off.

Bill McNeal and Jimmy James by themselves could make any show great.

No way. Jennifer would be afraid of breaking a nail or mussing her hair. Beth would clean her clock in a heartbeat.

I call this one a draw. They were both great.

I loved Joe! I liked when he took some random piece of electronic equipment out and refused to put it back until he got his way.
“Do you know where this goes? Well, I do.”
WNYX definitely wins this one.
