That’s my understanding. Adamantium was invented in an attempt to replicate the shield.
And of course it’s not truly unbreakable. Doom smashed it into one half-size piece and many smaller ones when he had the Beyonder’s power; Thor beat the hell out of it with the Odin force and had to hammer it back into shape; it can be teleported Trek-fashion. I expect Galactus could destroy it on a whim; he just never has because it’s nothing lik ea threat to him.
As I understand it, they’re both equally unbreakable, in that neither metal itself will be damaged by any amount of mundane energy thrown at them (to do so, you have to use something that can rearrange matter on a molecular level). The shield, however, also has the relativity-defying ability to absorb momentum, leaving its wielder unharmed from many forms of attack. If Captain America stood in the path of an onrushing train with the shield in front of him, the train would smash against the shield. Try the same thing with a mere adamantium shield, and the shield would go flying, along with the human behind it.
Clearly, both Cap’s shield and Balvorene’s claws are actually magical in nature. The smart money is still on the guy in the ridiculous blue tights over the greasy dwarf.
Along the same lines, they’ve probably both sat through briefings about the powers and capability of the other… but the difference is, Cap listened during his briefing.
What’s this about breaking anything? Neither of them has the strength level of superman. If I hit one nearly unbreakable thing with another nearly unbreakable thing, with merely human+ strength…neither will break. Duh.
Actually, this type of setting is a big advantage to Cap because of the shield bouncing off multiple objects trick. There are too many trees and random poles in a public park.
Wolverine is not all berserker instinct. I remember a What If?issue were Wolverine traveled in time/space and met Conan. The first time they fought Conan defeated Wolverine because Logan had some predictable fighting habits from martial training (plus Conan had a magic sword to deflect the claws). Wolverine “dies” and comes back super berserker and defeats Conan by being upredictable and slicing off Conan’s hand.
I don’t think even giving back Wolverine’s healing power helps him all that much. His healing still takes time and can be overwhelmed with flurries of quick strikes. Cap wins the battle even if Wolverine might win the war.
