Woman wins beauty contest without showing face!

Wow! The Saudis managed to make beauty pageants even more sexist!

Maybe not more sexist, but sexist in a different way? I still think I’d rather be judged by my “dutifulness to … parents and family, and … service to society” than how I look in a swimsuit. Maybe.

I wonder how they do it in the Iraq, as such?

So if she won because of a three month period of doing good stuff wouldn’t someone one from the competition have to follow her around all the time?

ETA: Porbably in a similar way they do it in the South Africa and the Asia but definitely different than the U.S. Americans do it.

On the one hand, I think that I’d rather a girl be given prizes for her grades, personality, and kindness than her looks. On the other, yeah, being measured on how you rank as a housewife-to-be is still probably more sexist than parading a girl around in her undies.

Heh heh … one of her prizes was a “pearl necklace.” Lucky girl…

News is fun.

France is to blame, they are outlawing (more or less / infidels) the burpa,

I saw a really ugly person on a TV judge show Yesterday, man it looked like the ‘ugly bat’ beat her, and her daughter was a close second…

it was Judge Judy

Other qualms about their society aside, I’d say it’s a good thing if we encouraged girls to be moral rather than good-looking. Whether that would change how women are valued on the sexual market is a different story, unfortunately - but at least it would be a Noble Lie.
