Women look horrible with one side of their head shaved

I know this is forum is called IMHO, but imagine how boring this place would be if every thread was about a style that someone doesn’t like.

Maybe the OP normally doesn’t opine too much in the real world and came here to find a safe place to vent. But every day, I hear opinions like his, usually expressed around similar minded individuals so that the next fifteen minutes of conversation can be about how ugly everything and everyone is. Even though no one in the room is going to win a beauty contest any time soon. It just doesn’t make for really interesting conversation, IMHO. Share with me a wacky idea or a really cool piece of information. But a conversation focused solely on bashing people’s styling preferences just doesn’t do it for me.

Perhaps that’s why the OP has been met with negativity.

In my opinion the best “shave in a haircut” is Yolandi Visser’s. It fits her personality and Die Antwoord’s style.

Yolandi

And since the entire of IMHO is clogged with “I hate this hairstyle” threads you all had no choice but to read this thread and put the OP in his place. Makes sense.

Ok, gotta agree with the OP when it comes to that one. But hair is an individual expression, no one should change their hair style based on my opinion. Mine for instance expresses the chaos in the universe and receding shorelines as a result of GCC, but it’s my choice to go with the way nature determined my hair should grow.

If the OP was looking for kudos and applause, he should go to the “Haters” message board. There are many fashion forums who would love to hear the OP’s perspective, I’m sure.

No one in this thread has been disrespectful or mean to the OP. So your white-knighting here is kind of crazy.

Yeah, crazy. I am sure responses like that to yourself wouldn’t raise your blood pressure.

If I created a thread ragging on facial hair preferences in men, I’d expect quite a few responses like, “Um…who the fuck cares what YOU think?” It would be crazy for me not expect this, given the liberal attitudes Dopers have towards fashion and style. I’d go to a “We Like Clean Cut Guys!” forum if I’m just looking for validation. And it is crazy for you (and perhaps the OP, I dunno) to expect his OP to be well-received. For all the OP knows, half the women here have half-shaven heads. What, are people supposed to listen to his unsolicited frank opinion but not share their own?

And you’re right, I wouldn’t like the kind of feedback the OP has gotten. That is why I am intelligent enough not to a create a thread like this one.

Then why put it in IMHO instead of Mundane etc. etc. People do have opinions and when you ask for them they’ll give it to you.

The half shaved look reminds me of when skateboarders were doing it on both sides with a short middle ponytail. Shake your head and it falls down “straight.”

Or would the OP prefer the undeniable mullet? (Business in the front, party at the back.) :stuck_out_tongue:

Hair is the most forgiving place for self expression. And it’s fun to change around.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t expect any responses. I was bored and high, and happened to see some woman with a half-shaved head on TV, just when I happened to be browsing the IMHO forum, so I made a throwaway post about it.

I think some of the responses have been over the top, but I agree that it was rude of me to not consider that some Dopers might have that style, and I apologize to them for my thoughtlessness.

Well, why didn’t you say so? I definitely think we should have a D&B Forum. (Drunk and bored.) Bet it would become the most popular (in “Views” anyway.)

I forgot to add that the movie guys did this to Natalie Portman too in “V for Vendetta”.

Also beautiful before.
Also beautiful after.
Still beautiful now (Google is my cite).
Its fashion. Its art. It will grow out.

Yeah, we could dump all over each other, laugh uproariously and then conveniently forget the next morning.

Spelling and grammar wouldn’t matter, either. That would be Rule #2. Rule #1 would be that all posters are temporarily assigned random sock puppet names selected from a sticky list of vices, like 6Shots or 8Brownies.

Apology accepted. Just next time try to be prettier and thinner.

I wouldn’t say she is “pulling it off”. She just looks like a very attractive women with a stupid Travis Bickle haircut.

I would almost say it’s better to just shave the whole thing off like Demi Moore in G.I. Jane, Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta or Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3. Just shaving part of your head just always looks too “hey look how edgy I am, challenging traditional standards of beauty by shaving part of my head” too me.

That’s just your white privilege talking.

No, not nearly as much as constantly being given an unasked-for opinion of my/women’s stylistic choices. Maybe, just maybe, some of the posters who responded so horribly are just sick and tired of this and finally feel comfortable enough to actually say so on the board.

Thus proving the OP wrong. Oh, so very, very wrong.

I see a lot of women with shaved heads that look great. It must take some serious balls for a woman to try it, especially someone in the spotlight, and that is attractive as well.

If you dress a thousand guys like Peter Pan, one of them will look the least stupid. That doesn’t make it advisable.

Fucking hilarious.

That’s right, how dare you, CarnalK, a white, cisgender male, use your patriarchal privilege to express an opinion about anything a woman may say, do or espouse? Don’t you realize that your very EXISTENCE constitutes OPPRESSION?

FTW!
