There was an Infomercial yesterday after Flash with stuff about DC’s upcoming movies. It had a bit about the up coming Wonder woman film which looks really promising. I think they are getting this one right. Footage here.
Also a new Suicide Squad trailer. Looks like it might be a winner. I wonder if DC is happy or disappointing everyone is excited about their August release and not the one that comes out in 6 weeks. Trailer is here.
I am begging, BEGGING, BEGGING that they don’t screw up Suicide Squad! This, Deadpool, X-Men and Zoolander are the only things I have much interest in seeing this year. So far.
That show was painful to watch. Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith couldn’t summon an honest emotion between the two of them. It was pretty much a “me too! and I’m better!” rant aimed at Marvel/Disney.
Suicide Squad looks like it might hang together better than I thought / worried, but I’m not exactly counting down. It’s difficult to introduce that many characters so quickly AND have a plot. I have a feeling most of the characters are going to feel pretty superficial. If the sense of humor actually lands, it might work. I’m skeptical, though – Harley’s “haha I’m crazy or AM I?” bit in the trailer had a definite stink of “action movie joke” about it.
Wonder Woman I’m more optimistic about. Looks like it’s going to be pretty and they do seem to want to do the character justice (pun semi-intended).
See, that’s one element I actually like. The rest looks a little bland, but I think that was a clever way of distancing him from other Jokers and managing to look unhinged but more lighthearted than other portrayals.
Nobody wants to see somebody try to ape Ledger, and, while I’d love to see somebody do the Joker in the style of The Killing Joke, this movie ain’t the place.
Does this movie take place in the same universe as the new Justice League stuff?
Agreed that copying Heath Ledger, or Nicholson, or Mark Hamil, or Cesar Romero would be ridiculous. This looks even worse.
But you know, I hope it won’t be as bad as I fear. I used to read Suicide Squad back in the day, and liked it a lot. One of the things I liked about it was how it often showed these villainous baddasses were really mostly pathetic at the core. That all the power and eeeeevil of these guys ended them up in prison with no hope. So I hope the movie doesn’t forget that even if they have cool powers and in your face attitude, that they’re still losers.
The amount of mansplaining in the material about the upcoming Wonder Woman movie was stunning. Yes, there were quotes from the women who directed and starred in it but mostly, it’s guys talking.
If you think Wonder Woman sucks I would recommend seeking out the Direct to Video Wonder Woman movie from 2009. It is really good. Personally I am excited for the movie based on the footage so far.
Anything to back that up? Wonder Woman is still a pretty well-known character, and this will be the first time in years (discounting that execrable Catwoman flick) a female superhero has had a starring role in a “solo” film.
