Woohoo got my tax refund already

Surprisingly early this year. I keep things well documented and I know exactly what forms I will be getting(and technically could fill out my return without the actual forms, but I wait for them for confirmation).
Once I get the last one, which happened last Saturday, I double check it and ask Mr. Turbo Tax to hand to the the IRS. Amazingly the money showed up in my account today.
I wasn’t planning on it for this weekend. Maybe a little bit of extra fun for me.

Hooray! I know my W-2 is ready on-line but am waiting till this weekend to prepare.

shakes fist Still waiting on one 1099.

My brokerage sent out an email telling us they intend to wait until late Feb to send out the 1099 packages. “For our convenience”, as this reduces the number of corrected 1099s they must release. Or so they say.

The Bastids.

i’d be pissed if Woohoo got my tax refund.

Getting 1099-DIVs or 1099-INTs in February has been SOP for the last few years (although the latter is easy to calculate). I haven’t even bothered checking. NB that you have until April 15, 2018 to file if you have a simple W-2 with an obvious refund.

Pet peeve, that you avoided: thanks for not referring to the money back as a “tax return.”

Yeah as pathetic as interest has been lately I have nothing in interest bearing accounts at all. And I guess enough in funds that weigh Growth over dividend that they were able to get those by last Saturday.

Feb 2nd is the legal due date.

Taxes are due a little later in Canada than they are in the US, but I haven’t gotten a single tax document yet. My employer hasn’t even issued my T4 yet. It’s really annoying because I did a fake return based on my pay stubs and it looks like my employer must have over-withheld this year as I have a massive refund coming.

That’s what I thought but Fidelity said that my 1099 would be available on line on Feb 14th and the paper copy would be mailed at that same time.

You could alter your w2 to get a little more per paycheck but I think psychologically, the big chunk for the tax refund feels better  Happy spending!

I’m still waiting for a lot of paperwork in the mail. I don’t expect to be able to file before the end of February at the earliest.

That’s a joke. Most years I get a bunch of 1099s toward the end of February, and this year will be the same.

I wonder if there’s not some department of the IRS that these companies could be reported to - as they’re legally REQUIRED to send 1099s earlier than that.

Of course, last year, two different providers told us “too bad, so sad, formally requested extension” and I didn’t get to finish ours until late February. Which was a bummer as we were due a large-ish refund.

This year, we’re due an insanely large refund (overwithheld… every time we try to correct that we wind up OWING ) and we really need the cash. Fortunately we are only holding on one 1099 how.

You could always file, and then file amended. A hassle, sure, and keep in mind that you might not want to spend it all as the 1040-X may need a payment.

The due date is Feb 15. As that is a Sunday, and the 16th is Presidents’ Day, they may be out by the 17th. Sometimes this isn’t even the final one but satisfies IRS requirements. I’m sure that the IRS is already quite aware that Fidelity, ETrade, Ameritrade, et. al are releasing 1099-B/DIV then.

I didn’t get a 1099-INT from our credit union but it didn’t matter - I was able to add it up myself. For 4 interest-bearing accounts in 2014, we earned a whopping $9!!! One of the accounts had so little in it, it earned ZERO!

I submitted our returns electronically last week. Last year, we got our state refund in something like 3 days. Not this year, but since it’s just $151, I don’t much care. Our Fed refund is more significant, and even that showed up in about a week last year. If that holds, we’ll see that money this week. But I’m not holding my breath.

No idea how things will go next year, since my husband came out of retirement for a fat paycheck. My goal is to end the year within $100 of our total tax, but our income has fluctuated so much these last few years, I can’t seem to manage it. On the other hand, at least we don’t usually have to pony up any money in April, so there’s that.

Due to the somewhat complicated nature of our finances - working overseas, US investment accounts, and a side business - all the forms are sent to a very nice lady at KPMG in California, who takes care of all this for us. Sometime in October a final tally is sent and we either send or receive a check for the year.

This is my last return where I will have a qualifying child for earned income credit. My refund is due to be deposited tomorrow. It amazes me how I can get back 6 times what I actually paid in taxes.

I am buying myself a scooter with small portion of my refund. I’m so excited for Spring.

Mine was deposited on Saturday. One week from filing to refund.

One week for me, too.
