My best friend has been bugging me for years, literally, to ask this guy out. He owns a nice little cafe, and she used to work there. Every time I break up with my current beau, she keeps telling me how much Matt and I have in common, and I need to give it a shot.
Well, he is certainly handsome, and we do have similar tastes in movies and music, and I’ll be damned if he doesn’t make the most delicious food ever (although I still stand by my assertion that my black bean hummus is better).
And since I’ve gotten a little older (he is 8 years older than I am) the age factor is no longer a big deal. Not to mention how sexy it is that he’s a successful restaurateur.
So I’ve had it in my head for the past few months that I should ask him out, although I’ve talked myself out of it the last few times I had a good excuse. But today I stopped in for a bite, and while I was sitting out in the courtyard I saw the parking attendant go by, and give him a ticket. My friend has told me before that Matt has procrastinated for years about getting himself a parking permit so he doesn’t have to move his car every two hours, and has racked up a lot of tickets in the process.
Aha! I thought. My parking permit (I live 3 blocks from this cafe) is valid for this area of town, and it comes with 2 guest passes so that friends can park on my street without worrying about tickets. So I went inside and regretfully informed him that he had a ticket, but that I had a solution. I offered him one of my guest passes, and he was so delighted he offered to buy me lunch.
So there you have it. We didn’t make a date, so the next time I stop in there I’m going to redeem my free lunch offer, and see what happens.
