Word 2000 picture insert problem

When cutting and pasting pictures into Word, they never show. All I see is the box that’s supposed to have the picture in it.
I was going to say that I can insert a picture from a file, and it shows just fine, but I just tried it, and it didn’t even show.
So what setting do I need to change? I don’t think it’s a memory problem, because, while this computer has 64 megs, we have another with 256 megs, and I can’t get anything to show on Word there either, except maybe it will show pictures inserted from files, I don’t remember, but anyway, and advice? (And by that, I mean, helpful advice  )

Start with the obvious. From the menu bar - Tools, Options, click the View tab - in the grouping titled “Show”, make sure “Picture placeholders” is unchecked.

What file format is it?

Is it any particular file type? jpegs, gifs,…

Can you see line art if you paste it in from Word’s line art choices?

Starfish, it worked, thanks.
