Basically, try to guess the 5-letter word they’re thinking of by typing 5-letter words that are either too early or too late alphabetically.
Phooey. I may never get another productive thing done as long as I live. (Though I can’t believe it recognized “decad” but not “reign.”)

My third guess was one letter off from the final word. It took forever to narrow it down to that.

I don’t understand this game - clearly I’m quite dim.
I was ready to give it up, but then I got one right fairly quickly. Work schmerk.
Type in a five-letter word. If it goes “up” (i.e., to the box above the guess-box), the word you’re looking for is later than it in the alphabet. If it goes “down,” it’s earlier in the alphabet. You can use those “outsides” to narrow down the word you’re trying to guess.
I got between “guise” and “hacks” and I couldn’t think of any other five letter words.
Meh.
