Wordplay

Hugh likes to walk but but hates to run.

Hugh really likes to be called a pedestrian but don’t call him a jogger.

Nope, sorry, neither one.

Ok…I agree that the first one does not work, but the second one does:

pedestrian or even pedestrian

Ah. He vacations in Fiji, but never in Tonga. He’ll drink pop, but not soda.

As an aside, I think the original puzzle-a-day puzzle is somewhat ill-formed. The answers also conform to another relatively simple rule:Hugh likes words with odd syllables, but dislikes words with even syllables.

No to both of those. There’s a slight distinction you’re missing. Hal and Thudlow missed it originally as well.

No to your first one.

OK I think I got it now.

Hugh is glad a patriotic song is named the Battle Hymn of the Republic instead of the Battle Tune of the Republic.

By George, I think s/he’s got it!

Wow.

Admittedly, it was a real hard one, after the underhanded toss that was my first one. I had to balance them out.

But yes, the rule was given. And as I hinted, it has a very limited set.

New Puzzle:

Pluto, but not Neptune.

Washington D.C., but not Hawaii

Joker, but not Ace of Spades

Unlike my previous, I am anticipating a LOT of valid answers. So that I can confirm your answers or not, please provide links as you see necessary.

One way to go:

Lisa, but not Laura

Israel, but not Palestine

Buick, but not Cadillac

In the first term of each pair, no vowel is repeated. In the second term of each pair, at least one vowel is used more than once.

The color Fuschia but not Periwinkle

When flying would rather use United or Southwest instead of American.

Wow. Uhm, I guess that works.

And I totally forgot I had an open puzzle over here for you guys.
