Work Like a Dog-A Mundane Mutt Post

***waaah! my iPod died! :frowning:  :frowning:  :frowning: ***
Right in the middle of a song this morning, it just stopped. So I rebooted it (worse case, I’d have an empty iPod I could refill at home) but I got a Sad iPod face (but the good news, in Googling for the image, I found a page on how to fix it, so after I surf, I shall attempt a repair)
more sad news from Rosebudland. A dear friend’s father passed away earlier this week. He’d been ill for almost a year, but had been declining rapidly over the last few weeks. I have to pay a shiva call tomorrow evening.
all the kitties and puppies, whether owned by Dopers or not, are a-door-a-bell!
I am going to crash earaly tonight, but I may be back around 11pm or so. Otherwise I’ll see you tomorrow.

Hey guys! I am home, the laundry is done, the kitchen mopped, and Maggie strolled. I am having salad, rice and fish for dinner.

Ellen, good for the Cherry kids!

meli, I am not surprised by your discovery. Nature abhors a vacuum.

BooFae, you can have a pie and a pint.

MBG, I’m sure you only read Playboy for the articles, too. :dubious:

rosie, sorry about your friend’s dad. How is the phone, I might get a similar one.

It’s cool. Except for some bizarre reason (and I went back today for another try) the Verizon guy could not get my old phone to connect to the doohickey that would transfer all my contacts to the new phone. But I already clicked a pic of Smokey for my wallpaper, and I will spend the weekend manually loading contacts. Another downside is the old LG has dozens of cool ring tones built in - the Samsung does not. And those wouldn’t have transfered even if the doohickey had worked. SO I will be buying a bunch-o-ringtones this weekend.

Oh and the iPod has been resurrected. That website I found thru Google had a very simple (so simple most people wouldn’t think of it, and Apple sure wouldn’t recommend it) fix that worked. Bang the iPod on a table, preferrable on a pad of paper (I used a mouse pad) to jiggle the internal hard drive connection a bit, since it probably just slid out of alignment.

rosie I’m so sorry about your friend’s dad. FWIW they’ll be in my thoughts and prayers. Oh, and yay for the iPod resurrection. I still say bangin’ things around is the best way to fix stuff.

MBG I hear ya. Some of the best people I ever hired were those that just made me feel right. Sometimes ya just know when it’s the right one.

Oh and, taxi I’m one margarita away from appreciation. Just thought I’d let ya know.

Ok, off to mix pre-appreciation margaritas!

rosie, I’m so sorry to hear about your iPod! I don’t know what’d I do if mine broke down. I’m absurdly dependent on it to maintain my sanity.

Just finished my batch of deviled eggs and am now cooking pasta for dinner. Honestly, deviled eggs are the devil to make. And they’re gone so quickly. Ah well. At least they taste good. My friends better bloody appreciate them, or there will be hell to pay. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks ever so much for that detailed update, swampy! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry about friend’s Dad, rosie.

I’m about to head off to a concert.

Back later.

Hello, all. What happened to our nice day? I woke up to MORE rain–after such a nice sunny day yesterday. I plan on lodging a complaint.
Not much to say–looking at 2 days at nurse work this weekend, school on Monday, and then–VACATION! (well, for 3 days, but still!).
I will be internetless those 3 days. Somehow I’ll survive.

Re nice people with crappy products…no good advice, but I have the same problem.
Why can’t the mean people and the crappy products go together?

Percussive maintenance  .

Haze, bookmark this page just in case you get a Sad iPod

Hullo! First chance I’ve had to get on line today. I had to do part of a presentation today - telling the whole command about the project we did - and it went great. We got some good feedback from big mucky-mucks - it’d sure be nice if it translated to a little cash feedback. We shall see.

After the presentation, I just couldn’t bring myself to do anything, so I came home early. **FCD ** had gutted the master bath to the studs, and he was just finishing with cleaning up the last bits. So we loaded the debris on the trailer and made a dump run, followed by a trip to Lowe’s to get our new shower and assorted supplies and stuff (to the tune of $700+) They didn’t have the surround we wanted, but the Lowe’s in Waldorf did, so we took our purchase home, fed the critters, then headed to Waldorf for dinner and a second trek to a second Lowe’s. And we just got back.

Tomorrow, we’re going to a clay supply store in Alexandria. And we may or may not start working on putting the bathroom back together. We’ll figure that out tomorrow. For tonight, we’re just chillin’ till bedtime.

TGIF!

Hi everyone! I think I am well enough to post coherently and without pain, yee-haw!

rosiposie I am also sending prayers for your director’s sister, the director and family. My #3 is participating in a Diabetes Fun Run as I type, there is a big push to educate people on the island (the State as well) about Diabetes, in particular Type II. Also, can’t you be repositioned to stand on the floor, or would it totally mess up the vocal blending? Or are you too tall? It bites to rehearse and not get to perform. On preview, condolences on the passing of your friend’s father.

Sorry about the ear infection boofae, my hearing is compromised due to repeated and untreated ear infections when I was a kid. As an adult with a good idea of what real pain is, ear infections are right up at the top of the list. Feel better soon!

bobbio four kittens are a nicely sized litter, but so far I not only see no photos but not even a description of color/pattern on the moggies! I do believe that is against the rules!

Ellen (sorry, I don’t have color down yet!) I so totally understand your elation with your son, and congratulations with his turn around! My son had behavioral problems from the beginning, culminating with him cussing out two teachers, bruising the principal and calling him the eff word in a hallway full of kindergartners while being physically assisted out of the classroom. At age 10. Now, at age 14 and in middle school he has been on the Honor Roll all year, was the 7th grade male Rotary Club Student of the month in October, and has become a true delight. It was a lot of hard work and lots and lots of tears and frustration, but he is a pleasure to be with now, and all of his teachers and friends parents tell me how wonderful he is. Your boys are beautiful, btw!

hehehe…if’n Joe Dawg were a bit bigger he would look like Zoey, the psycho Min Pin! I will look for a Zoey pic in a bit.

db how’s your back?

And everyone else I have failed to mention by name, congratulations on new jobs and such, to the sickies warm blankets and hot soup and get-well-soon’s.

My arm is much improved. I am still supposed to be applying the silvadene, but am mostly doing it at night only. The skin is pink again, and is healed over, but it has the grossest texture, I really really really hope that it reverts back to regular arm skin.

Skiffman went down and handed all the tax crap to a tax guy. We have some tax issues, and hopefully this guy will get us straightened out, the last accountant we hired royally screwed us, to the degree that I am looking into how to recover some of our money we paid to her, or at least getting a break one way or another on the penalties and interest accrued while she (serious expletive) us over. Anyway, after he dropped off the mountain of paperwork he and one of his skippers caught a plane (think puddle jumper) over to Kenai and are gonna drive down to Homer so the skipper can look at a sawmill. It’s a free ride for Skiffman, and we both could use a couple of days away from each other. Nothing bad going on, it’s just cabin fever time in Alaska, and sometimes it’s good to get away. Last year I went to my friend’s in Nikiski for 10 days and it was bliss. He will be home Sunday night, but he will be starting to work on halibut gear next week (same skipper he’s goofing off with this weekend) and then they will go out for the aforementioned halibut. Prices at the dock are really good, and of course he will bring some chickens* home…mmmmmmm!

We have beautiful clear blue skies and golden sunshine casting sparklies off the snow. We are at 27F, warm enough to open some windows and let some fresh air in. We have been doing more purging, I went through three boxes and kept a small pile while sending out two garbage bags out! Skiffman is terrible, he wants to keep everything, and I want to get rid of the clutter! I am now able to access the bookshelf from floor to ceiling without moving anything besides the cat station. Brother Brad** has offered to build me a table and shelf unit for the kitchen, and also said that he would be happy to finish #3’s bedroom. (flooring and a tiny toyo to keep her room warm) If you didn’t figure it out when I went on a vent about The Situation which occurred a while ago, the J was/is Jeff, and he is still not talking to me (I really hate it when someone uses my name to “get” at someone, especially when the only information from me was from my defending the person…stupid jr. high school crap) and so I am surmising that he isn’t going to finish the job. If Brother Brad is still here when the next goodly sized influx of dollars comes in, he is also willing to finish the kitchen, plus all the trim etc. that Jeff just never finished with. So, everything is good with that, I dislike living in the midst of a remodel, which probably has it’s roots in the fact that my bio-dad walked out on us when I was a kid, and we lived for several years in a partially finished house. Plywood floors and Sheetrock walls, at least I am not that far behind in the current remodel!

Well, the kids are home and I should be thinking about feeding them. I am so happy that I am through with the antibiotics and may now consume alcohol again! A nerve tonic is at my right hand, and tonight might be my turn to post drunken I love yous!

*halibut 35 pounds and under are referred to as chickens. They are the best for eating (well, the even smaller are best for eating, but 35 pounds and up are the legal limit size.

**I collect Brothers as li-li collects husbands!

kai - I’m so glad your arm is finally healing. Eventually, if you keep applying the salve, the skin will return to normal. (and if it doesn’t, you could start a fad and wear evening gloves everywhere)
I couldn’t stand on the floor for three reasons. One is the vocal balance thing, the second is because the floor is for the “front row”. Those gals do actual dance steps, and I am far from surefooted enough to do that, let alone sing at the same time. The third is that my knees cannot support me for more than a few minutes at a time. But not to worry. By the time our fall show comes around, I’ll be good as new.

See? I told you I’d be back. I’d still be asleep but for the diesel train that rumbles thru town about a half mile south of my house and blares it’s horn/whistle as it crosses the 5 grade level crossings. But I’m convinced the engineers like to see how many people they can wake up, especially as the 3am train rumbles thru.

On an unrelated note, please go check out what I posted

Oh, and here’s a joke I heard at rehearsal last night

Ciao for now.

Ah, I understand rosie. I don’t stand much either, bad knees, hips and back, and I certainly don’t do any lower body dance moves. My upper body still dances though, so that’s okay then.

Here is Psycho Zoey, being egged on by my son-in-law. She makes the most terrible noise, but since she is now old and fat she is more of a Placid Zoey. I love her, crazy little dog, but man! She was a bat outta hell when she was younger.

We did it! The Columbus Cottonmouths are the winners of the Commissioner’s Cup for the regular season Champions of the Southern Professional Hockey League!

Playoffs should start Thursday. Tomorrow night is the last regular season game - against Jacksonville - and Carmike Cinema is going to show it on a big screen. Then the end of year party is Sunday.

I need a haircut; think I’ll go get one tomorrow…

Howdy kai, glad the arm’s all better. I get an “address not valid” page when I click on the pic of Psycho Zoey. :frowning:

Snakes, yay for the snakes! Good luck in the playoffs.

I’m up for a bit cause I woke up and had to pee. Then I needed a drink of water which woke me up so I decided to play on my puter a bit.

Several margaritas were consumed by all parties earlier. Soon I will be really sleepy again. Tomorrow may be painful.

ETA, this made me think of the lyrics to this song. Anybody remember it?

Hello everyone! In some ways, I’m glad ya’ll weren’t as chatty as normal; I would have had so much more to catch up on.

Rigsy! Congrats on the job. I hope you find much better than your current job. Also, I hope your daughter enjoys her trip to France. What an opportunity! Hopefully, the host family turn out to be very nice people, and the son doesn’t turn out to be um…overly friendly.

For those of you still suffering owies, Teh Ick, etc, I am sending best wishes for a speedier recovery.

Work is still craziness, however, I’ve just been hunkering down and trying to get through each day with humor and grace. It’s all one can do. I’m tired of the media attention for my place of employment. It’s all horribly slanted, and it’s frustrating. At least I’m not the one who has to actually talk with these idiots.

Nothing much else going on.

My daughter has decided she wants to take the SAT this May to see how she does and so she can focus on any weaknesses for when she takes it next year, her senior year. So, we signed her up and I paid for it.

Tomorrow, Mr. Taters is taking my son, along with my son’s friend, paintballing. I hope the friggin’ rain lets up tomorrow. They’re actually calling for Flood Watches around here due to the amount of rain that has fallen.

I guess I’ll veg in front of the TV for awhile.

Thank ye! I’m sure it’ll happen sooner or later - hopefully later.

Just had a drink with friends and am very ready for bed right now. Night!

Morning all. Yes, I’m up caffeinating already. laughs Kai’s link to the pic of Psycho Zoe has one too many forward slash in it!! It’s funny that JoeDawg has that Dobermann temperment, Swampy, since he looks a bit like one … well, except for the part about being a Chiwawa (omg, I totally mis-spelled that!).

A very mundane day ahead for me. No real plans this weekend save for grocery shopping. One of my cousins starts “light chemo” next week, to be followed up by radiation, for cervical cancer. First, though, she’ll have an ultrasound; she had a hysterectomy last month which apparently might not have gotten all the cancer. Please keep her in your prayers; she’s in her early 40s and has a six year old.

Off to work. Had a horrible, odd dream last noc. Dreamt that the 7th HP book came out and it was a graphic novel (aka “comic” book). Also, it was very religious. And the pictures moved like they do in HP world.
Very strange.
I hate getting up this early. I went to bed at 9pm, but I am still tahred–it must be the interruption in my sleep cycle that makes me so exhausted before I’ve even worked. <sigh>

Have a great Saturday, folks! Here’s hoping it stays warm.
