Work Like a Dog-A Mundane Mutt Post

Too much nerve tonic?

I was 11 in 1973. What are we talking about?

The heat is still on at work, and none of the windows open. I was so hot, I wanted to melt. I came home and took a shower, stat. Now I am somewhat better.
I’m on vacation! We leave on Tuesday, allowing lots of laundry to be done tomorrow. I was going to pack jeans for this trip, but I think I might need shorts! (I actually kind of hate it when it goes from cold to too warm in one day. I like spring, dammit!)

Who’s doing tomorrow?
Good night, all!

Hi, all. I’ve been kinda away – we went to Atlantic City overnight. The highlights, for me, were the shower in our room at the Borgata – oh, I would kill for that lovely water pressure at home – and the food we ate, which was plentiful and varied and altogether yummy. Unfortunately, I did too much walking so came home yesterday afternoon and have been resting with my knee elevated pretty much ever since because it was pretty swollen. But it’s feeling better tonight.

Unfortunately, my mom’s isn’t – she had her knee replacement Wednesday, and at 86 she doesn’t recuperate real quickly. First they weren’t giving her enough pain meds at first because they were concerned about her vitals, and then they kicked her out of the hospital on schedule even though nobody thought she was ready to leave, including her, and then this supposedly wonderful nursing home she went to for her rehab (for which she sits on their auxiliary board, so you’d think they’d try extra hard to take good care of her) managed to not answer her increasingly desperate calls on her call button last night for her meds, and she went 1-1/2 hours past her normal meds time – and believe me, four days after knee replacement, that is not a good thing. They claimed the button “just doesn’t work sometimes.” Yeah, right, sure. So we’re making backup plans to put Lapin Blanc on a plane to go out there in the next day or two and kick some ass; and in the meantime, my mother has been told that if they’re late again, for heaven’s sake, she has a telephone in her room, pick it up and call somebody! Like me! I can call from across the country and yell at them with great pleasure, if need be! So anyway, we’re worried, and keeping very close tabs on things. But it’s worrisome, obviously.

Other than that, not much is going on here. Papa Tigs, I learned yesterday, due to where he works is getting to meet everybody, and this week it was Barack Obama. He has such an interesting job! Me, not so much…but at least today, for the very first time since my surgery, I was able to find an actually comfortable position to sit at my desk to work. I was beginning to wonder if I ever would again; up to now, my knee has been just achy enough to break my concentration to the point I couldn’t get hardly anything done. It was a welcome relief, needless to say.

Don’t everybody have too much nerve tonic tonight, tomorrow’s a workday!

Hey! I wasn’t even born till 1978. No way y’all can be that old.

I am much better now. I held a puppy! Didn’t have my camera with me though, so no pictures. The puppy’s mom is a tiny Jack Russell terrier. Don’t know about the dad. (She’s not my dog. If she were, she’d be spayed.) The puppy is about three weeks old and already half as big as his mother.

Well, I’m CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System, the “old” one); I can go out at 55 with 30 years. I’ll have 30 years in June (June 6), but won’t be 55 until September. Of course, I’d only get like 60% or something like that of my pay, which means I’d pretty much have to get at least a part-time job. laughs You never can really retire, I guess! Sometimes I think a part-time job would be okay - if I found something that I could work 4-6 hours a day, it would probably be enough to live on, with my retirement. I haven’t had HR do a work-up of figures for me just yet, though (I think I’m a bit afraid that when they do I’ll have a heart attack at how small the monthly check will be :().

Did someone say brownies?! drools I trust the sample tasted good! :stuck_out_tongue:
