Working on a holiday MMP

My mother-in-law’s viewing is next Sunday afternoon and the funeral is Monday.

No word on whether the state employees get a two-hour delay tomorrow. There’s supposed to be a lot of ice and crap on the road, so a lot of the local schools, including the sprog’s, have already notified that they’re on a delay. What’s nice is that my agency takes the position that I shouldn’t break my neck to get to work.

I drove through sleet and freezing rain, worked 14 hours, and drove through 200 yard visibility fog. Holiday my fanny.

Ruble, The Company That Pays Me is open 365. But I get extra when I work on a Big Six holiday.

Was it uphill, either way? :dubious:

Both ways. And I liked it ,dammit![/Old Man]

And did you wear an onion on your belt, as was the custom?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Working a short day today. When I went to bed last night ,it was 30 degrees ,with ice on the ground. 5 hours later I wake up and it’s 60. :dubious:

A big yellow one. I can’t get the white ones because of the war.

I woke up kinda hoping for a delayed start, but no such luck. It was 44° in my back yard and 51° here on base. I did some back and forth and turning coming out of the garage so I could head out rather than back out of the driveway, and it’s a good thing I did - it took 2 tries to get thru the snow at the end. There wasn’t a whole lot - I just needed a little more *oooomph *to power thru. Other than that, the roads were mostly just wet. Anyway, I’m safely ensconced in my cubicle, ready for another day of… um… fun?

I forgot my phone, dammit. That’s only a problem because I use its alarm to let me know it’s time to go home. The stoopit computer has outlook on line rather than on the computer, and it keeps logging itself off, so I can’t use its alarm/reminder. Guess I just need to be aware. dammit. :stuck_out_tongue:

At least it’s a short week. Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 50 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 68 and cloudy for the day. It rained overnight but not a whole lot it seems.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence. I start off with a trip to the east forty this mornin’ so at least I get to slack a bit at da cave before headin’ out. Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Up early to muster my crew after the long weekend. They are all accounted for.

Moooommmm I just read an article about a man in Spain who did’nt show up for irk for 6 years all the while still being paid. His excuse was he didn’t have anything to do. Ha.

I guess I should get a move on although I could easily go back to sleep.

Happy Toosday!

We have freezing rain. It’s 30 degrees now but supposed to get up to 48.

Sunny I have house mousies. They are smaller than the ones I’m used to seeing. We get rid of them for a while and then they come back. Sah-son found a hole last night, so I’ll be plugging it up today.
I may try one of the electronic things. My mother got some and they didn’t work, but now that I think about it I think she got them for ants. When I lived in her house, I put cloves around the perimeter of my bedroom and that kept the mice out of my room. Cinnamon worked on the ants.

When it gets warmer out I’m going to plant mint around the foundation of the house. I remember one of my aunts did that, she said it kept the ants away. Supposedly mice don’t like mint either, anyway it can’t hurt.

Other than dealing with mice, it’s SSDD.

Happy 2sday all y’all. At work (such as it is and what there is of it). Spent the 3 day weekend doing the minimal amount of effort needed to sustain oneself, while watching the entire two seasons (and grand finale) of the cartoon Gravity Falls. (and if you think a 62-y.o. man shouldn’t be watching cartoons, I feel sad for you).

Rained all day Moanday, but looks as if it has passed on and is drying out. My dentist appointment is this PM, with my eye check on Thursday. Combined with the physical last week and that should take care of my 2016 checkout.

A friend down on Texas got a scare this weekend, her 30-something son had some type of abdominal tear, damn near bled out, needed emergency surgery and 7 liters of blood, but appears to be OK and is on the mend. So some good news from the weekend.

And so to work…blurf.

Windy like crazy here! It seems even worse because we’re right next to the runway which is right next to the bay, so lots of uninterrupted area for the wind to whip thru. This cheezy, old metal building definitely vibrates in a brisk breeze. Makes things exciting.

Good morning. What a lovely day! It’s all grey and wet. Isn’t that marvelous?

Just kidding. BLURF!

My office has a large window. In the summer it’s going to be roasty, right now it’s warm (specially when everybody is in; half the people here have courses twice a week).

The little phone-calls room we have to one side is freeeeeeeezing and I’ve just spent two hours there. My left eardrum hurts (I can’t tolerate earplugs at all, two hours of headset are bad) and my feet are crying. Someone come warm me up!

You can’t get rid of mint. Ever. One year, I pulled out all of the mint growing in my backyard. It grew back in short order and I stopped trying. You just can’t win.

My employer has graciously given us a two-hour delay, which is nice. I’m hoping against hope that they’ll close outright, but I don’t see that happening since the highways aren’t horrible and the temperature is already above freezing. I don’t want to take any more time than I have to, so I’ll probably go in and just take my time getting there. The sprog has a snow day today, so I don’t have to worry about that.

I have to get the laundry to the dryer. Today is going to suck.

My grandparents had a mint plant, and sometimes I’d eat leaves off it.

I probably have to go into town today (forgot the music shop is closed on Mondays. Arrgh.)

Okay, that was a bizarre experience, had to get out the ice scraper (NOT the shovel), but was out there w/of a jacket on. WHY does one need to be scraping ice when it’s in the upper 40°s?
Other than that; blurf.

Freezing rain. Back when all our gas lines had to be replaced, my neighbors let them bust up the heavy stone walks and replace them with concrete. Not me – I made them pick up the slabs and put them back. So I am just rock-salting the s*%t out of them in a couple minutes while everyone else is farting around with this alternative or that. I know; I’ve got a mug of hot tea and chuckles watching them. Sometimes life is good.

Boy, have we had some serious rain here!! Except for substantial piles, most of the snow is gone - glad I didn’t waste my time shoveling yesterday!

Lunch break came just in time - my brain is frying and I needed to look at something other than this fixture I’m working on. None of it is difficult - just lots of little stuff that’s making me crazy.

C’mon, Firday!!!

How is it, in this day and age, that a man who uses a computer in his job doesn’t know how to replace paper in a printer??? I sent a job to the printer, and moseyed over to pick it up. This apparently clueless male of the species was standing there staring at the flashing light on the printer saying “It’s out of paper.” I opened one drawer - it had paper. I opened the other - it was empty. Clueless male proceeded to stare at the cartons of ink cartridges before looking in the supply room next to the printer - oh look - paper!! And he handed it to me. I guess I look like a secretary or something.

So I stuck a ream of paper in the drawer, getting a papercut in the process. He’s printing such a big job, I don’t know when my drawing will be processed. So I came back to my desk to bitch about it. Seriously, dude, it’s not rocket surgery…
