Workplace griping, anyone?

It’s early on a Monday morning, so maybe I’m just not with it, but could somebody explain the part I bolded, please? There’s a joke there … right?

I suspect it’s because FIV/FLV is most easily transmitted by bites. In a multi-cat household, bringing in an infected newbie is safer if he’s de-fanged. It’s kinda the no fangs & a pampered life vs euthanasia. They don’t really need those canines unless they need to hunt for a living. I admit the thought makes me wince a bit, but overall I think it’s kinder than declawing, and certainly doesn’t prevent them from living a long and happy life. A well fed and house cat w/ FIV or FLV can live quite a long time, it’s the strays and ferals who are at most risk of an miserable slow death.

Well, the UPS guy at the new place is not hawt, but he is nice! I had hopes for the guy from FedEx who picked up on Friday, but he said he wasn’t the regular driver for us. I will see what this afternoon brings.

I haven’t had phone or email at work since WEDNESDAY. The Boss upgraded our computers at the same time we moved. I don’t recommend that anyone try it, because it sucks.

We are now on DSL instead of a cable modem, because the cable company has never run a line where we are, which is less than a mile from their office. We are stuck with Qwest. They can call themselves CenturyLink all they want; they are still Qwest and they suck donkey balls. I had incoming email just before I left for lunch, but still couldn’t email out of our accounting program. The IT guys (NOT Qwest) said they thought they knew how to fix it, so I have some hope that issue will be resolved today.

Gotta go! I have fires to put out at work!

flatlined, that was the part I really hated when I was doing TNR. The boss of the group I worked for would not put any animal to sleep unless it was actively suffering, so I ended up with several ferals in cages. I had to clean them because I wouldn’t let the volunteers do it - some of them were aggressive - and I do not think it was a kindness to them. I do think a painless death is preferable to suffering and spreading further infection, even if it makes my heart hurt.

I spent the weekend on a rescue mission for a neglected horse. About four years old, not gelded and completely, totally untrained. I think he has a good heart, though, and has potential. My rant is with the rescue organization that posted the need for help.

We drove 2.5 hours to get to the location of the horse. We arranged transportaion for the horse. If you have no intention of helping us get the horse into the fucking trailer, tell us so at the beginning so we can either shitcan the idea or try to find help on our on - it a town where we know NO ONE. Don’t wait until we have already arrived to tell us we’re on our own and hang up on us. If not for the kindness of the lady who volunteered to transport the horse we’d still be standing in the fucking pasture staring at the horses.

Big pig thingie. I’m surprised they don’t just knock the chow bench over. Or eat it.

Hey, flatlined! How was your first day back without SG in the office? Any news on the Rat King? And was Bill a Good Boy today?

Aha, if the bench has to be high enough to stop big pig thingies getting at it then I’m a lot less surprised that the skunks can’t get up there.

[QUOTE=Wikipedia, of course]
The collared peccary (Pecari tajacu) is a species of mammal in the family Tayassuidae that is found in North, Central, and South America. They are commonly referred to as javelina, saíno or báquiro… Although somewhat related to the pigs and frequently referred to as one, this species and the other peccaries are no longer classified in the pig family, Suidae. … The collared peccary stands around .5 meters (20-24") tall at the shoulder and it is about 1-1.5 meters (40-60") long. It weighs between 16-27 kilograms (35-60 lbs).

Sooo… medium to large-ish dog size pig thingies.

So, did ya go to work, flatlined? Get fawned over? What was it like without SG in the office?

And what IS a chow bench? Just a table covered with cat food and feral cats?

I thought the chow bench was in the break room at work.

Great. Now I’ll have medium to large-ish nightmares about said medium to large-ish dog size pig thingies…

Svvine-hundst!

The latest in my saga is that I happen to know that the receptionist/assistant documentation clerk is resigning tomorrow for a better job that starts on Monday. Another key person is in negotiations with another employer and is likely to give notice any time now. The pricing manager has been looking for another job since the day she started; she only took the job in the first place because she’d been unemployed for 6 months. La di da di da.

After I retire that will leave the documentation manager, Boss and Bitchy Boss Wife.

    • what's a chow bench? - -

Yes, and thank you. My first responsibility is to my permanent cats, the rescues have to come second. My sweet lil FIV pos feral spent her first year inside hiding under the bed. I knew that she was eating, drinking and using the litter box so I was OK with an invisible cat. Somewhere around the middle of her second year in, she started showing herself when I was handing out the canned food. She would also sneak up on the bed in the middle of the night and curl up next to me. Now, I can touch her and pick her up for a few minutes. She lost her fangs and reproductive ability for 3 years of living in a comfy house with food that she doesn’t have to fight for. When she starts to fail, I will have the vet come to my home and let her go.

Hopefully, you will get some eye candy for the summer. How’s the FedEx guy looking?

I’m really not sure that I’m ready to do TNR full time. I need some successes. Holy cow about the horse! This is something that makes me nutz. People call with a problem and then walk away. Its like they think that rescue people are just sitting around waiting for someone to call and once the call comes in, waiting helicopters, experts and vets just arrive. They don’t seem to understand that we are volunteers who are doing this in our free time.

The guy who really sticks out in my mind was someone who called because his cat was sick and he couldn’t pay for the vet or manage to transport the kitty to town. Lolli called me and I told her that I could pick the cat up on my way to work and gave her a time to tell the jerk. When I got to his very nice looking home, I parked behind his new pick-up and knocked on his door. When he opened the door, I told him who I was and that I was there to pick up his cat. He told me that he was eating breakfast and would deal with me when he was done. He then shut the door in my face and I was able to watch through the windows as he walked by the cat in the carrier to go back to his food. I knocked on the door again and he ignored me. I left. Jerk called Lolli and demanded that I be fired. I don’t know what happened to kitty which makes me sad. Poor kitty.

Thank you for asking, there are forks in the break room. And condiments! You know how people bring packets of ketchup and what not to work? There was never any in the break area. I used to bring mine in and some of my minions did as well, but they always went away. How odd that we are now building up a good stockpile already. Before SG retired and got rehired, he used to work in Facilities. Now that SG is gone, the Facilities guys are talking.

This isn’t the first time that SG has retired to avoid being fired. SG was going to fired from Facilities due to him taking 2 hours and driving 60 miles to go tape something up at a building 3 miles away.

I haven’t been to the RatKing’s Lair yet. Today was elections and I worked that. I’ve got a serious rant about the nice highschool kids who were “volunteering” (put in quotes because they get school credit, get to miss classes and get paid), but I’m not sure that I should share. Lawsuits will probably happen over the mistakes, but lawsuits happen after every election.

I had boxes 5 high and 3 deep in front of my desk when I got back. I’d rather have the boxes were I can find them than lost in the warehouse. We will be doing a full inventory next month. Our wonderful IT guys can’t figure out how to allow us to use handheld scanners, so this is a manual thing. We do it with print outs, pencils and hand corrections into the data base. Its wonderfully efficent.

I’m sorry again. Its a work bench made out of 2x4’s, a sturdy, heavy piece of work with the top 40 inches off the ground. There is an open but unset trap on top and the cat food goes in the trap. This makes it easier when I need to trap a newcomer.

Javalina don’t jump and skunks can’t climb. I mostly feed cats, birds and raccoons.

The reason I call it the chow bench is because I ride with Marines…chow hall…chow line, etc. In rescue terms, it would be the feeding station.

Missed the edit window…but as to Bill…he’s about as good of a patient as I was. I’ve managed to work things out with his housekeeper (she was afraid that I would have her fired from a very nice job and she likes Bill as a person so was very protective of him…worried about me being a gold digger and such). I have a spy!

Or a collabrator…because she called me when Bill wanted his SUV keys. All innocent and stuff, just wanting the number for the driver I had vetted. She gave the phone to Bill so I could give him the numbers or make the calls myself.

When I fly out next month, I’m bringing her a plushy jackalope for her grandson.

I did a google image search on javalina – man they’re ugly looking critters. Quite a few pics of people posing with dead ones, are they any good to eat?

No eye candy, but he is efficient! He’ll be using the back warehouse entrance instead of coming in through the front office anyway.

We have more changes coming this week! We are moving our accounting program from PeachTree to QuickBooks today; that will take care of most of my email issues. The version of PT that we have been using won’t talk to Windows 7. apparently. And contractors will be coming in to put in the wiring needed for the cable modem! The other two tenants were complaining about the DSL too, and my boss is actually the landlord. That should handle the rest of the email (and phone) issues.

What, is this a double entrende thread now?

I WANNA HEAR THE REST OF THE STORY!!!

i.e. Did he get the job?
