World Cup spoiler policy

The World Cup is once again almost upon us (hooray!). And with people living in different time zones, not everyone who cares will be able to watch every game in real time.

I propose the following policy:

(1) Absolutely no spoilers of any sorts (even “what a game!” type things) in Thread Titles
(2) A thread per game, or per day, entitled something like “WC - USA vs England” with mouseover spoiler space in the first post, but after that, spoil away in real time. If you’re going to be watching USA vs. England tape delayed, then for the love of Pete don’t go into that thread
(3) Try to avoid spoilers for a day or so in other threads that are not clearly marked. If someone is randomly reading about NCAA basketball and they happen upon “wow, that basketball game as even more exciting than England’s crushing 14-0 loss to to the USA today” they will be quite upset.
Thoughts?

Just limit it to one World Cup thread. Spoiler everything. There’s no need to spread the soccer blight all over.

No spoilers in thread titles and no spoilers in non World Cup threads. Those two are a given. I don’t really care if you do anything else. SDMB isn’t a place anybody goes for soccer so I think a thread for each game is overkill.

With 48 group games, a thread/match ratio of 1 is impractical. I would suggest one “World Cup 2010” thread with open spoilers, plus other threads as and when an interesting discussion that deserves its own thread crops up. Obviously no spoilers in thread titles should be an absolute.

Make the thread titles searchable - so make it “WorldCup - USA vs England XX/YY/ZZZZ”.

Should there be a thread per pool for the first few rounds, and a master 2010 World Cup thread?

A thread per match is overkill, I’d say a thread per group, per group round or a thread for all of the group matches should be sufficient.

Is it really so hard not to open threads with World Cup in the title if you’re not interested? Please don’t come in and SHIT in any more THREADS.

Not shitting, I was just being a brat. It’s a really interesting thing with the World Cup. It’s not just a matter of time zones, like it would be for just a US sport, which makes me think it’s safest to have a subject and a day, and then to almost literally spoiler everything.

That’s absurd. If people are worried about being spoilered about a game, then they need to avoid that thread(s). A thread full of spoilers doesn’t do anybody any good.

I’d agree if it were a continental US thread. I mean, if you want to talk about the great pass or the goal, wouldn’t that be spoiler-worthy to the other side of the globe that might just be waking up? Then again, I’m a World Cup virgin. What does precedence dictate?
