Not to fearmonger, but what makes you sure there is a “next expansion”? I’ve heard no news, and this expansion wraps up the entire cosmic conflict. We kill Sargeras in 7.2. What’s left after that?
Also, my experience in soloing old content is that unless you’re a tank class with robust self-heals and good current-content gear, you won’t solo raid-level in the immediately previous xpack content and succeed. And I play a hunter, the premier soloing class. (Because we never really solo – we have our own mini tank we can heal.) Not at a “farm this content” level of execution, anyway. I don’t think Blizzard even commits to making content solo-friendly only one xpack back. My recollection is that multi-player mechanics don’t usually get fixed for at least two xpacks, and not just at expansion release either. Galakrond in Siege of Orgrimmar became solo-capable only a couple of months ago, and Legion’s been out a lot longer than that.
So if you’re counting on expansions to allow you to claim Legion content after-the-fact, you probably have two complete expansions to wait, if it happens at all.
Sweeping up the Old Gods once and for all. It’s probably more than even money that the next expansion will involve N’zoth and Azshara (the queen, not the zone) and maybe Cthun and Yog-Saron (f’realz this time, not just an appendage or two). I doubt the WoW timeline will manage to reach all the way to when the Titansoul inside the planet hatches (if it isn’t already dead), but that would be cool, too.
I heard there’s some stuff on the PTR that could mean N’zoth is coming in 7.2. There’s screenshots of some… things… lurking…
If there’s no new expansion after Legion, then so be it. I have literally years worth of previous game stuff I want to do; that happening would give me time to do what is generally thought impossible in an MMO – I’ll finish it.
Maybe I’ll want to try grouping for a few things. Or maybe I won’t. I already group for certain world events and have considered it for the Kara chess event and the first room of Blackwing Lair. I won’t die on the hill of soloing content, but it will always be my strong preference.
Definitely, and I know I won’t be able to solo everything. This is fine with me too.
All players decide what they’re willing to do, what time they’re willing to commit, what they’re willing to sacrifice for the game. I play solo in part because I cannot commit to a guild’s demands and I don’t have the time or temperament to work it like it requires me to. Others do. I don’t. I’ve accepted this means I won’t have the BiS gear each expansion. Players won’t tremble in fear at my appearance in battlegrounds or arenas. I won’t be a part of a realm or world first. That’s fine. I still enjoy playing and I’m proud of the time and effort I’ve invested in my characters. I don’t regret not grouping more one bit.
I have played since 2006; my current main I started in January 2011. I generally aim to complete every quest and finish every achievement with her. I am patient, and never run out of things to do. I’ll be okay.
Anyone remember me and do you have a level 525 lockpicker on Alex? If so, would you post me your game name and allow me to send 3 boxes to you? I will pay you 100 g’s for each one opened.
I have asked ingame, but can’t get anyone to reply. Guess because I’m still on WoD - both because of the flying requirements and also because my machine won’t be able to handle Legion.
Also, I injured my right rotator cuff (sounds like a car part) and am very slow these days playing and typing. My dominant hand/arm.
Thanks
Quasi
PS: As far as that other “THANG” goes: I’m starting to lose and gain time and some other minor stuff. but other than that, I am still above-ground.
PPS: I really miss talking to y’all ingame, so if you have time, just say hello when you can.
I don’t know what your server’s like, but I’ve always had success just walking around Stormwind until I saw a high level Rogue and then whispering to them. If you’re offering 300 gold for 30 seconds of work, I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find someone willing to help.
In the Death Knight class hall there’s a worker/merchant who will create armor sets that let you upgrade your companions. You talk with him to start a “Create work order(s)” job (just like the ones at your garrison in WoD). A few hours later he’s created some armor sets, each of which will upgrade your companions by 5 levels.
I can’t for the life of me find a similar worker/merchant in my Monk class hall; and googling hasn’t helped me so far. Does anyone know if there’s such a worker/merchant located in each class hall, and is there some site that’ll point me to he/her location? All my online searching so far just leads me to lists of the merchants who set your class armor set, which isn’t what I’m looking for at all.
Without that merchant, I’m really struggling to upgrade my Monk class hall companions.
As Aktep pointed out, take Pilgrimage as your Order Hall tier 3 advancement. When it’s fully researched, send your champions on missions and, if RNGesus is feeling generous, you’ll find equipment and armor upgrades in your bags. (Or mail, if your bags are full.)
The fact that EQ1 is still going with 20+ expansions and that WoW probably makes around $60 million/month is why people expect new expansions for 10+ years.
Checked last night - I do have the Pilgrimage upgrade on my class hall already; I guess my champions are just doing a poor job of finding that bonus loot on missions.
I’d give them a severe talking to, but I’m afraid they’ll gang up and whip my butt.
Respec Brewmaster before you call them into the conference room. That way you can outlast 'em.
I have also noticed that RNG hasn’t been very kind to my shaman. ilvl and companion progress has been noticeably slower than on my other 110s, a priest and a hunter. Hell, the hunter (main) has just stopped sinking resources into buying champion gear, because he has literally a dozen of every green or blue one (and one or two of every epic one) in the bank! Assuming Blizz doesn’t completely [del]sabotage[/del] rework companion gear in 7.2, I’ll be ready to max-gear all new companions added in that patch as soon as they’re recruited.
As to why those three classes got “screwed” into a RNG-gated famine, I dunno. I realized a long time ago that questions of Blizz’s class design philosophy and choices are outside the comprehension of sane human beings.
Silver Hand (RP) server, where I am leveling one toon of every class, and leveling them together:
On Wednesday, my paladin was questing in Swamp of Sorrows, and looted a Disgusting Oozeling pet. Sold it on the AH for 15k.
On Saturday, my shaman was questing in Silithus, where he found a treasure chest in a cave. Inside the chest was an Orb of Deception. He posted it on the AH today at 45k gold, and it sold inside of two hours.
As far as the leveling goes, everybody is up to 55, with the paladin, rogue, druid, warlock, and shaman up to 60. Soon, the DK will join the team.
Thanks to getting married last year, I’m getting a fat tax refund. I’m finally going to upgrade to a new Windows gaming PC so that I can get back to playing current content. It’s just getting painful playing on this 2008 iMac.
Grats! You seem to be striking gold all around!
I’ll get my boast out of the way. I finally completed Raiding with Leashes IV, which is collecting battle pets that drop from bosses in WotLK raids (Trial of the Crusader, Ulduar, and Icecrown).
The last pet wasn’t dropping (about half a dozen runs across several alts running full clears), so this last week I decided to optimize the pursuit. I did a mostly-clear of ICC, leaving just Lich King (from whom the pet I needed would drop) and also the green dragon boss (which can be bypassed, since it’s actually a healing fight and not “kill the boss” fight).
I did the trick of opening custom groups and inviting each of my other toons in turn to enter ICC, kill LK, and be disappointed. Until the last alt I hadn’t run this lockout (the 11th toon). For this guy, my Tauren paladin, the drudge ghoul did drop.
This scored the achievement, and I got an email inviting me (starting a quest) to a pet battle against Algalon the Observer. This was not an easy fight; I lost four times before I succeeded, and I’m pretty used to sure-shot strategies. But I eventually won through and got the quest reward: Stardust the star bunny. Who is adorable in a transparent star-spangled way.
Killed Guldan this week. Was really sort of anti-climatic. Just like the last tier, you zone in to the boss room, clear a few token trash, and kill him. The fight, in LFR anyway, isn’t particularly epic. Kinda feels like the old AD&D cartoon “Insert sword into slot for 50,000 Experience Points”. So, I win WoW. Again. I guess.
Grats, Oak. While I save up to get a new machine built which will have enough memory to actually run Legion, I am leveling some alts. So far, I have three at 100, which leads me to ask the following: I was under the impression that any rep on any of those three would count toward toward completing my Pathfinder quest, so that I can finally fly - sort of a cumulative thing.
Knocked out a bunch of dungeon achievements on Sunday. I have four left before Glory of the Hero. “You Used to Scrawl Me In Your Fel Tome” can eat my ass, though. So tedious. Speaking of tedious, I should finally finish Balance of Power on Tuesday. I just want it over. Lastly, I’m currently stuck on the penultimate boss of Brawler’s Guild. Once I get all these things done I win! Maybe I’ll finally feel like I can play an alt.
