World of Warcraft: Legion general discussion thread 19 July 2016

Woo!! My guild finally got Heroic Kil’Jaeden down last night. Overall I think I enjoyed Tomb of Sargeras, but Fallen Avatar & Kil’Jaeden sure are some unforgiving fights mechanic (and dps check) wise. Feels good to get that “Ahead of the Curve” monkey off our backs. I guess for now my focus will be grinding out AP for more Netherlight Crucible traits (my main-spec artifact is currently at level 63 so I just got the level 2 trait on my middle relic).

Grats, Clawdio!

My main is at 67 now on his main spec Artifact; I think I have the other two at like 54 and 48.

I’lll likely never get a AotC achievement as I am not in a guild. I do pickup raids all the time, but it’s difficult and rare to find a group trying for AotC that wants a random mage coming along.

Thanks!

Yeah, even when you get in a good PUG, you could be cruising right along, one-shotting bosses, then wipe once on the 5th boss at 10% and people will start jumping ship. Remember the old adage people… “Raiding is like going to the bathroom, it’s going to take a few wipes before you get everything all clear”. But really, I do understand that raiding isn’t for everyone, cause sometimes wiping repeatedly isn’t fun, and if you’re not having fun then what’s the point.

Bumping this thread for Blizzcon hype. This year is the first time I bought a virtual ticket, partially so I could see the panels, but mostly because I wanted the horde mini-zeppelin two-seater mount.

Anyone else waiting for the new expansion announcement this weekend?

I’ve got 4 toons at 110 now…Mage (main), Warrior (Horde), Hunter, and Tankadin (most recent). Still have not spent my free lvl 100 token. thinking about using it on a goblin shaman I have around lvl 43 or so.
I don;t really care for the Argus content. haven’t seen the raid–dunno if it is even available for LFR yet. Also not pleased with my alliance guild. The Guild MOTD has two major grammatical errors and hasn’t been changed in months.

The new raid (Antorus) is not open for any difficulty yet. Another week or two before Normal/Heroic/Mythic open up.

Looking forward to it as Tomb of Sargeras seems to have run it’s course for my guild. I get the feeling we’re all pretty much fried on it and ready for something new.

I’ve finally leveled an Alt (my first one this xpac) got a Prot Warrior up to about 910 ilvl.

Don’t forget that the virtual ticket covers pretty much EVERYTHING this year (which wasn’t the case in previous years) AND VODs for all VT-eligible events will be available on the Blizzcon website for TWO WEEKS AFTER the con ends. So you don’t have to kill yourself to watch everything in real time.

Is this a certainty (God I hope so)? It feels like the Warcraft story is at it’s end, what with the fights against Sargeras and retaking the home of the Draenor. It sure seems like Blizz still has some gas in the tank, so I’m interested to see how it all turns out.

They’ve gone deeper.

If you’ve looked at Chronicle Volume I, you’ll see that the evil BEHIND the evil is the Void. You get huge hints :dubious: of this in the current content, as well. F’rinstance, the void Ethereals in Mac’Aree have nothing to do with the Legion, but here we are kicking their asses and being annoyed when they dismount us as we try to ride by.

The Old Gods are essentially Void manifestations. The Void is why the Legion was formed: Sargeras decided he’d rather burn it all down rather than let the Void have it.

So my speculation (well founded on evidence, IMHO) is that the Void and its minions are the final enemy. My shadow priest is not amused.

If the X’era/Illidan cutscene taught us anything, it’s that the Light isn’t necessarily “good” and the Void isn’t necessarily “evil”. They’re basically metaelemental states, amoral in reality, although we’re biased toward the Light generally because of how it became the default religion of the non-NElf Alliance nations.

Also, less than 5 hours until the What’s Next in WoW presentation!

So here’s the WoW news from the opening ceremony. Spoilers ahoy.

The biggest surprise was the announcement of Wow Classic, a level 60 official legacy server. It’s not coming soon, as they made a point of mentioning that is was more complicated than it looked and asking for patience. Still, I don’t think anyone saw this one coming at all.

As for the new expansion pack, it is titled Battle for Azeroth. They are doubling down on conflict between the Alliance and the Horde again. Level cap is going up to 120. Two new continents, Kul Tiras for the Alliance, Zandalar for the Horde. Six new playable “allied races.” New dungeons, raids, etc. They also teased two new systems, one called warfronts and the other uncharted islands, with more details coming in the what’s next panel.

The initial trailer is awesome. If I had time before work, I’d see what other goodies they’ve released. As for the renewed hostilities: GOOD! I’m getting sick of this namby pamby “let’s all play nice and fight the big baddy”. Lest you forget, once the Orcish Horde escaped their demonic possession, they tried to go to another continent and leave the Alliance in peace, while also playing a pivotal role in saving their asses. The Undead were created by the human prince, and then slaughtered wholesale when they tried to rejoin society after escaping HIS clutches. As we’ve seen over and over, the trailer shows the Alliance attacking the Horde - again.

FOR THE HORDE!

Similar to the Vorlons and Shadows from Babylon 5?

Kind of, yeah.

Frankly, I’ve always thought Legion’s “Light v. Fel” was Vorlon/Shadows with the serial numbers filed off.

The next xpack’s theme looks throwback… the Alliance/Horde war returning to the fore. If the novels continue to be canonical, Christie Golden’s next book (sneak previewed at WoWHead) hints that the blame will be with Sylvanas. (This is Sylvanas speaking of the Horde army to Nathanos Blightcaller):

It surely does sound like the Foresaken will be leading the Horde to start a war which, according to the cinematic, eventually winds up on the Undercity’s front driveway.

From the media about it, this xpack is going to be pure nostalgia. Classic realms, return to the original conflict focus, deferring the fight against the biggest baddy until… the next xpack? Maybe never? They’re running out of runway, and “blast from the past” is just a holding action.

ETA: I expect an uptick in ganking, in the here-and-now, because the race war is being revivied. Yaay.

Judging from what I’ve seen and read, I’m kind of “meh” about it. But then, I was kind of meh about Legion when they announced it at Gamescom two year ago, too, and that turned out to be one of the better xpacs. We’ll see.

Oh, and they’re basically getting rid of PvP servers…all world PvP is going to be opt-in with the new xpac. Which doesn’t change anything for this carebear anyway, since I never PvP except for the one time I tried to get the Children’s Week achievement for Long Strange Trip.

Not really getting rid of them, but making it a toggle which sort of server you want to play in at any given time. If you toggle pvp on, then you’ll play on a shard where there are only other people with pvp on. If you toggle it off, then you’ll only see and be able to interact with people who have it off. It’s a bit of an open question how it’ll work with groups, but they might make the group leader’s pvp status apply to the entire group.

Just a reminder to my fellow Doper Azerovians that tomorrow is the last day of the anniversary event. If you have the Bronze-Tinted Sunglasses as your head transmog, get your screenshot soon, because when the event is over, so is the transmog. I honestly don’t know if they just poof out of your wardrobe completely or if they remain, untransmoggable, until the next anniversary event, but everyone seems go agree they become defunct as a transmog source as of the end of the event.
