What are daily quests? I often see messages from guild members that “X has completed 5 daily quests!”.
I believe Daily Quests first show up in Outland (Burning Crusade content). They’re quests you can do once per day, and there are a fair number of them.
Some of the holiday quests (like putting out the fires during Hallow’s End) are also dailies.
What you’re seeing (the “X has completed 5 daily quests!”) is an in-game announcement of someone completing the achievement to…well, do a particular daily quest on 5 consecutive days.
There are some quests that can repeat once a day for reputation with a faction, money, or other rewards Look for a blue ! . You can only do 25 a day. Until you get to level 60 or 70, though, I think the only one available is from the Warmaster for your faction, and will be to win a certain battleground. And since on some days it may not be a battleground you are eligible for, you will not see it every day.
I forgot to mention that when a battleground is over, you will be teleported to where you last queued for a battleground. With good timing and some cleverness, you can use this for free transport. If you join a battleground as a party, you will be transported to where the party leader queued for the battleground, so it can be used as a sort of hearth or meeting stone.
I’m jealous of those who can farm Strand for honor. I hear it’s good, but all the Strand games on our battlegroup end up 7vs4 or something, and, being horde, the game ends for lack of players before we can have a chance on offense. At least when the other battlegrounds end early, a winner is declared. Strand just kicks you out.
At least our AV games are 40 horde v. 10 alliance, so you can get 2k honor at a time, as long as you’re willing to wait 45mins to an hour for the queue to pop.
there are 2 initial daily quest achievements. One is just for doing 5 dailies of any kind at any time - one is for doing the same daily quest 5 days in a row (a near impossibility for me - since I only play when I’m home and I’m only home 3-4 nights a week.
So my lvl 37 tauren hunter traveled from Grom’Gol all the way down to Booty Bay yesterday where he was disappointed to discover that there is no Horde flight point. Or did I just not see it?
Are these various goblin towns supposed to be “neutral ground”? There were high-level Alliance characters killing NPCs there left and right. Heh. Were this the real world, that’s the point at which the Alliance flight master would be asked to take his operation elsewhere and the Alliance would have their docking privileges revoked
I’m starting to believe there’s some truth to the opinion I read somewhere that Horde players tend to be adults, and Alliance players tend to be all the 13-year-olds. When I’m playing my Horde characters, the small towns and villages I’m in are constantly being overrun by Alliance killing all the NPCs (while exploring Durotar, my tauren found a lvl 80 Alliance character slaughtering the NPCs in the Valley of Trials — oh aren’t you cool, preventing the low-level characters from getting/turning in their quests!). I’m not seeing the reverse so much when I play my Alliance characters.
When I first arrived at Booty Bay and was approaching the entrance, a lvl 19 blood elf ran past me and actually tried to hide behind me as she yelled, “Help me!” Seems she was being chased by a couple lvl 45 Alliance players. And I’m all thinking, “Sorry sister, you want to come to an area that’s too high-level for you and stir up trouble with characters way above your level, you’re on your own.” Luckily for her, her hiding place behind me happened to be near a pair of lvl 65 goblin guards who jumped in and took out the lvl 45 players.
In any case, I think I’ll avoid Booty Bay with my tauren unless I have to go there for a quest, simply because of the difficulty of navigating the place. This is becoming a real point of frustration when playing my tauren: he’s just so freakin’ big that in places like that I can’t even see where he’s going and he keeps stepping off the edges of platforms. I’m not sure if I’ll play another tauren. They’re fine in wide-open plains and similar environments, but in crowded environments like the jungle, getting around and still being able to see what I’m doing is starting to be a real pain.
I’m also still frustrated by a shortage of level-appropriate quests for my tauren. Everybody said, “Go to Stranglethorn” and indeed, a guy in Desolace sent me to talk to Hemet Nesingwary (I wonder how many people never realize his name is an anagram of Ernest Hemingway) when I was lvl 34 or 35. The first two Raptor Mastery quests Nesingwary gave me were fine, with levels of 35-36, and then suddenly the next quest in the chain jumped up to lvl 41! And in Grom’Gol, they keep giving me level 41 quests. Even the level 37 quests the trolls there hand out are too much - they all seem to involve going into areas that are literally swarming with enemies who are packed so close together that I can’t pull them one at a time without aggroing a whole gang of them. Cartographer indicates that Stranglethorn Vale is a level 30-45 zone. So where are all the level 30-35 quests? I’m getting really bored repeatedly picking off those ogres near Grom’Gol just to gain XP. My hunter has taken forever to just gain the last two levels.
So what’s the lore on blood elves? I keep finding them in unexpected (i.e. Alliance) places. I already mentioned Fiora Longears, the blood elf who hangs out, unmolested, on the Auberdine docks. Then yesterday I discovered that the First Mate on one of the Alliance ships (the one that runs between SW and Auberdine, I think) is a blood elf
(I investigated after speaking with a human female sailor on that ship who said she was jealous of the first mate because “He’s almost prettier than I am!”) Are there supposed to be some blood elves who aren’t corrupted by the addiction to magic, and so have shunned their own society?
Number one, you probably didn’t see it. The goblin towns have a Horde FP and an Alliance FP each. (Ratchet has a single neutral FP.) Look for the green exclamation point on the minimap.
Number two, there’s a faction you can get reputation with that you have to kill Booty Bay Bruisers for. You get a neat title and hat for your effort. In return, you become hated by the Steamwheedle Cartel (the goblin organization), and you become KOS. The gobbos are smart enough not to tar an entire race for the actions of a few. 
Number three, Hordies are just as guilty of screwing with lowbie Alliance as the other way around. There’s jerks on either side, have no doubt about that.
Number four…I dunno. Can’t help you, as I passed up Stranglethorn Vale in questing.
Number five, they’re not all blood elves. The Alliance-friendly pink elves are high elves. If I recall the lore correctly, blood elves are high elves who attached themselves to the Sunwell. When the Sunwell went boom, the elves who drew on it for magic went through withdrawal, while the high elves (few in number) remain unaffected. Fiora Longears is one of those.
The latter, it’s at the top of the tavern. You have to climb up a couple of flights of stairs in the tavern, out the door (looks like a ship) and turn left and the flight master is on the ledge. You can track him in the mini-map to help.
Yes, this sucks. I like the Tauren character, but there have been multiple times when I just couldn’t see what I was fighting.
You have a couple of choices here. I’m assuming you did all of the Desolace quests? They should take you up to 40 or so. Alternatively you can get a lot of quests out of Tarren Mill for the Alterac Mountains - and I think Hammerfall should have some for Arathi Highlands (although I skipped that area for the most part). Or go to the Badlands - tons of quests there for a 40ish hunter. Swamp of Sorrows too… Finally, you could always group up to do the Nesingwary quests - they do have a pretty nice gun/bow at the end.
One other thing I’d add is that the quest level has only been the roughest of guides for me. It generally takes into account only the highest level mob you could encounter in finishing the quest. I’ve been able to finish quests at least 5 levels higher than myself solo, and had trouble with ones at my own level - it just depends.
You mention having trouble pulling single mobs in the troll areas. How are you pulling? If you put your pet on passive and fire a single shot (serpent sting, for example) at a mob and then run away you should only draw one or two mobs at most. If you send your pet in (which will happen if it’s on defensive) then you will probably pick up more.
ETA: Do you have Feign Death? If so, it can really save your bacon if you accidentally pull too many mobs.
Go into the inn, head upstairs, turn left a couple times and walk across a little bridge, turn immediately right, go up the stairs, then look out the door to the outside that’s behind you. Walk out - you’ll be on the bow of a “ship”. Turn hard left, going down a few steps, and the flight master is right there. You can see the deck that the Horde flight master is on if you stand in front of the bank and look up at the building next door.
That won’t help. It doesn’t count if you drop into water. I ended up getting the achievement by accident when I jumped off a cliff and was a hair to slow on the trigger with casting slow fall. I ended up with 132 health (out of 9,500).
Once you have them set up, use them for storing things like trade materials (cloth for tailors, shards & dust for enchanters, ore & bars for smiths…), potions, special armor sets, items you aren’t high enough level to use yet, and so forth.
Yes. People may know exactly where to go for cookbooks, first-aid manuals, “limited availability” recipes/items, and so forth, but not want to take the time to go fetch them. They’ll just buy it on the AH, even knowing they’re paying a premium.
Whenever I do go out and buy something like a first-aid manual, I buy 3 or 4 extras and auction them for several times what I paid.
I’ve been playing my mage (lvl 74) as straight frost and loving it, but they’ve made some changes that make me want to check out frost/fire as a spec.
That’s similar to the way I do things. I also used to maintain a “storage locker” toon until I inherited a dying guild. I booted everyone out and set up a guild bank with two tabs, so my auction mule is also a bank/storage toon now.
I save things like cloth so next time I start a character, he’ll be able to work up through first aid for free. I also accumulate enchanting mats, odd items that don’t show up on the auction house often, and medium-size bags.
One of the best moneymaking tips I can give for the auction house is to get familiar with the prices on items you tend to farm, and don’t sell them when prices are down. If you’re willing to store them until prices come back up, you can make a lot of money.
Hard-to-get companions (a.k.a. vanity pets or non-combat pets) are huge moneymakers. If you can score Little Timmy’s white kitten in Stormwind, it’ll go for hundreds of gold.
Also crafted holiday items. My alliance tailor made a pile of red winter clothes and sold them for 10-20 gold on the alliance auction house and 40-60 gold on the horde auction house.
I wish I’d thought to sell off a bunch of my old stuff before the Wrath expansion hit, though. Dang! Gems that were selling for 25-35 gold are now selling for 3 gold – and I have piles of them.
There’s a difference between PVE and PVP I didn’t know about. In PVE, a level 70 probably won’t even be able to hit a level 79, much less kill it.
I’ve never tried PVP (except for a few accidents) because my home internet connection is satellite-based, so my average latency is about 1200. I run casters, and I find that my opponent just runs “through” me as I’m casting, which interrupts the cast and says I have to be facing my target. Unless I’m assisting someone else from a difference, I’m toast.
It can be hard to find, but its there. Go to the inn, on the top level. Theres a door that leads to the outside balcony that is shaped like a ship’s bow. Now here is where the FP is hard to see. If you go left theres a small ramp that leads to the “flight deck”.
Well, on Archimonde I’d tend to agree with you. Many alliance players seem to log only to use their level 80 characters to gank lvl 40 or less players. I plan on eventually levelling a few of my horde characters to 80 so I can help defend lowbies in STV.
Too be fair, my alliance characters on Stormrage (which is PvE) have witnessed the horde 80’s killing NPCs in Westfall, a lot. Once they raided Menethil Harbor, which was actually kinda funny.
You’re on a PvE server, right? Maybe she was new and didn’t realize that she shouldn’t flag herself as PvP when entering the area. I don’t mind helping another player in trouble if I have a reasonable chance of winning. On PvE I’ve occassionally helped out hordies that were being mobbed by monsters.

I never like Booty Bay that much on PvE, but on a PvP server it can be brutal. The Nesingway quests in particular. Just getting the mission carries a high chance of being ganked. I had a hard time at first, but since I don’t actually get too huffy when killed (its just a game) I managed to do it. Though if not for the ganking I could have done all of the quests in 1/4 of the time. I did complete the Greenhills of Stranglethorn also, which is a bigger pain than you’d think. If you take the quest for that look in the AH for pages that don’t get dropped. I finished the quest by buying the final page I needed. I also put my duplicate pages up for sale.
Wait til you get to Tanaris and fight the big insects. They’re a pain and when they die they sprout smaller ones that do a lot of damage in a swarm.
Aww…now I’m going to get all nostalgic for the days when the Bugs were the greatest threat to civilization…EVER!
I just started encountering them last night. I do not like the bug areas. Freaking giant twitching legs. :mad:
On the other hands, it’s a great place for Retribution Aura, because those smaller bugs get in one bite and then flop over dead.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Actually the quest to get the surveyor’s gear in the hive wasn’t difficult, but going into the crater was a pain, since the flying bugs seem to aggro from a fair distance.
Getting out of the hive was a paibn though…the ones I killed on the way in had respawned and I got lost in the maze. I finally just hearthed out.
and, well, Mister Rik is on a PvE server so the Lost Rigger Cove missions won’t be too bad for him. I had only one or 2 more Dock Workers to kill to finish when the Alliance ten year olds showed up. Luckily a friend came in with his level 80 and got rid of them, but ugh…if you do that quest on a PVP server take friends or go in on an off hour when there ain’t a lot of folks on.

Ugh. Just standing in Cenarion Hold and looking at that… pillar just makes me twitchy.
You’re really gonna hate Un’ Goro crater (I have renamed it “The Ganking Hole”), too. It is a hard place to navigate without aggroing something Its really bad on a PvP server, as you have to be on the lookout for monsters and opposing faction players. (the flight point is in a nuetral area, and theres a lack of guards in enough numbers to make ganking a no no…as a matter of fact, I don’t recall any guards helping me when I was attacked. )
It was the constant buzzing that made my flesh crawl. I was so happy to ditch that zone for Outland, even if I DO hate Hellfire Peninsula with a passion!
And giant devilsaurs that silently creep up on you like they’re 5’ tall and 40 pounds. At least the goddamn Fel Reavers in Outland give you a warning. The devilsaurs are just EVIIIIIIL!
Couldn’t see it - too many exclamation points covering it up I guess. I even had “Flightmaster” selected for tracking on the minimap, and it only showed me the Alliance guy.

The biggest problem is that, even when I pull back to get the “wide view”, every time he ends up with a wall or a tree or even a supporting post behind him, the camera zooms in to first-person or one step below first-person view. So walking through some of those tight twisty places means the camera starts zooming in and out, in and out, and it rapidly becomes very confusing.
Nope, I was finding everything there too high as well, and then the guy in the coastal town there (can’t remember the town name) sent me to Stranglethorn to take the piece of kodo horn to Nesingwary. It just seems that if a zone is labeled “30-40” or whatever, then when you get sent to that zone the first questgivers you encounter should be the ones who hand out the lower-level quests. I mean, I’d finished all the level-appropriate quests in The Barrens and Ashenvale around lvl 32, and at the end of a chain I was specifically sent to Desolace to talk to somebody at the outpost in the middle there. I assumed the quest levels there would pick up where the previous zone’s quests left off. But no, the guy I was sent to started handing me quests that were 3-4 levels too high. So I wandered around looking for stuff I could kill to level up on (and also to find a flight point), and found myself in the coastal town where a guy finally gave me a level-appropriate quest: take the kodo horn to Nesingwary. This was about the same time some of y’all in the guild also suggested Stranglethorn.
I’ll try your suggestion. The only problem I see is that in this one particular area (where I have to kill Headhunters and acquire a bunch of shrunken heads), before I get to the headhunters I have to first get past a huge number of other trolls (I had Track Humanoids on and mousing over the red dots on the minimap indicated that there were no Headhunters in that crowd). There are so many of them that I’m afraid the first ones I kill are going to respawn before I can kill the last ones. I may need to solicit aid from others there

I have a question about “Track Hidden” as well. Unlike the other hunter Tracking abilities, this one doesn’t seem to put red dots on the minimap. As far as I can tell it doesn’t seem to do anything at all. I was in the area across the bay from Grom’Gol where all those black cats wander around with their “Prowl” ability turned on. “Track Hidden” doesn’t seem to do anything as far as making them easier to see - I can see their shadowy forms whether I have “Track Hidden” turned on or not. (Indeed, my human paladin can see “hidden” enemies if they’re in front of her, and she doesn’t have any “Track Hidden” type of ability.) All I can do is sort of wander around the area and listen for the sound (“nwoooom”) they make when they phase in and out.
