I don’t mean to sound dumb, but who is Barbara Olson? The name sounds vaguely familiar, but I can’t place where I’ve heard it before.

Barbara Olsen was a conservative political pundit/analyst that was on TV a lot. I’m not sure if she was affiliated with any particular network.
Her husband is US Solicitor General (I think that’s his title)
Tower 7 just collapsed.
We are looking today at a possible five digit body count. I can’t think of a single act, outside of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to snuff out that many lives.
I want the blood of whomever ordered this insanity.
On a good note, speaking of blood, I’m impressed by my fellow Phoenicians. I put out an email to my company this morning asking all who were able to donate blood and gave the united blood services appointment number.
It took me more than an hour on auto-redial to get through to the number. When I did connect, I was asked not to come in today but to make time between tomorrow and Saturday, as the number of walk-ins today was more people than the facilities could handle. I’m scheduled for tomorrow at 2:30.
Since I sent out the initial company-wide message this morning (we have 58 employees), 36 of my co-workers have made appointments, several of them for the first time in their lives. While I am consumed with hatred and rage for the sub-human villains that committed this hideous act, I have a nearly equal amount of pride for my fellow Americans and Phoenicians for their quick and selfless rallying for their injured brethren.
To all the dead and injured, all I can say is that your fellow Americans will not forget you. To their families, all I can say is that our thoughts are with you.
Tom Clancy was being interviewed on CNN when Building 7 collapsed. Quote: “One of the problems with being a writer of fiction is that you can’t keep up with the madmen, as much as you try.” He said that he couldn’t have imagined a coordinated suicide attack like this because suicide is so against human nature and, if Islamic terrorists are responsible, they have defiled Islam because it condemns suicides to hell. He recommends more espionage to combat terrorism.
Barbara Olsen worked mostly on Fox News, but she also appeared regularly on Larry King Live(CNN) and Politicaly Incorrect(ABC).
I thought her husband was picked by Bush to be solicitor general, but hadn’t been confirmed. I could be very wrong.
I did hear James Baker say that he deeply missed her because she spent a lot of time with him in Florida during the election chaos.
She will be missed, even if you disagreed with her.
This is the first thread I’ve checked since arriving home from work. I was glad to see so many NYC Dopers posting here (and especially glad that vix is OK). But have all the NYC and DC area Dopers been accounted for? Is there a thread started for this and this alone?
I’m going to check it out, but I won’t rest easy until I know that these people are safe.

This might be kind of a dumb question, but is the Statue of Liberty clear of smoke yet? I saw some footage taken from New Jersey and it was totally obscured by smoke and dust. And for some dumb, patriotic reason it saddened me deeply.
WTC Five, a low building that’s home to my closest Borders Books outlet, is believed to be next. If you’re interested here’s a map of the complex; so far 1, 2, and 7 are gone, 5 is teetering, and from footage I saw before 1 and 2 collapsed, the Marriott (effectively WTC 3) was already half-destroyed.

CBS radio news is now reporting a series of major explosions in Kabul. Speculation is that it is US cruise missiles.
I hope, if this is the case, that we were able to gather some degree of proof that the bin Laden and/or the Taliban had some kind of direct involvement and that we’re not just knee jerking here.
